Should I just try to relax or insist on answers?

Last year I was constantly getting upper respiratory infections, laryngitis, bronchitis and pneumonia.  There was a period of 6 months that I was constantly on antibiotics and steroids.  My ENT did allergy testing (normal), CT scan of nasal cavity (normal) and several scopes to look at my vocal cords which were inflamed.  Finally he told me that he felt that I needed to have my Lingual Tonsils removed.  I had them removed in May of last year and I did okay for a few months but still had bouts of laryngitis and feeling of something stuck in my throat.  In January of this year I became very ill AGAIN with upper respiratory infection that then progressed into bronchitis.  It seemed that I was catching anything that I was exposed to (still do).  I was having a lot of trouble breathing and of course, couldn't talk.  I thought maybe my lungs were the problem.  My GP sent me to a Pulmonologist in March.  He checked my lungs (normal) and felt my neck.  He then told me to go see my ENT as soon as possible and have the ENT do a neck CT scan because I had an obstruction causing my problems.  The ENT said that the CT scan wasn't necessary and that maybe he needed to remove more of my Lingual Tonsils.  I was shocked!!  I didn't think I had any Lingual tonsil tissue left.  I left his office with more antibiotics and steroids feeling very confused.  The cold symptoms improved but my voice has never fully recovered and I am now having trouble swallowing food.  I went to my GP and asked him to do a CT scan and bloodwork. The results came back that I have nodules on my thyroid and have elevated liver enzymes.  I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and liver last Thursday and I am waiting to hear the results.  The technicians wouldn't tell me anything but I heard them making comments during the US ("that's huge", "another one", "what is that", etc.).  I am going crazy waiting for the results.  I can't help but think that I am worrying for nothing.  I keep telling myself that if they found anything I would have heard something by now.  However, it's hard to ignore the fact that I can hardly talk and have trouble swallowing a bite of bread.  This has been going on so long that it is hard to be patient but I know that some things just take time.  Do any of you have any advice?  I would appreciate any information you could give.

Thanks for your comment.  I found out that my GP has been on vacation and should return tomorrow.  I have seen the other GP in his office (and been given test results) a few times when my GP was not in.  However, this time he would rather my regular GP talk with me about my US results.  I'm trying not to think too much on the reason for this.  I have finally convinced myself that he is just mad that my GP is on vacation and wants him to be overloaded with things to do when he returns! (JK - trying to keep a sense of humor about the whole ordeal).  Anyway, I hope to hear something tomorrow.  My husband is out of town this week so I have lots of time to worry.  I do have to say that I felt a little less anxious after my initial posting.  Then by the time I worked myself back up I read your comment and again felt a little better.  I think it just helps sometimes to talk things out.    Thanks again!!

I do feel for you. The waiting and the unknown is the hardest thing to do. You know you can call your GP and ask if the results are back yet. By now I would have expected your GP to have them. Alot of the time they just wait for you to make an appointment then tell you the results. If it were really bad, by now you would have heard. If it is something still not so good, alot still won't go out of their way to call you. You have to call them.
Just ask the receptionist/nurse if your test results are back, and if they say yes, then get an appointment asap, or even ask to speak to the doctor.
I do this myself many times, as I live a long distance from many doctors, and most are very good about a quick phone call as opposed to a sit down visit. (Saves them time!)
Technicians are not allowed by law to tell you anything as they are not medical practitioners. And those comments they made may be to do with a bug crawling around on the floor! (Just trying to make a joke!) It's very easy to get carried away with fear when you hear comments.
It may be as simple as a goiter brought on by all your chest infections. The thyroid helps with the immune system so that is a common thing. It could be you have nodules too.
I had a ton of trouble swallowing food too, and had an U/S which then lead me to my long journey to this point.
I hope you get the answers soon. I hope it is nothing too bad for you.
Cheers
