Hey,
I'm a 29 y/o male, I was treated with radioactive iodine for an overactive thyroid about a year ago. I'm on Eltroxine 150/175 mcg. I also have low libido. I've checked all my sex hormones and they were fine. (by the way, you should check your FSH, LH hormones, these also control your sex drive). I'm suspecting that it might has to do with the eltroxin itself. I'm still looking for the answer myself. Just so you know you're not alone in this situation.

In your 2nd post you stated the following " ....testo 2.47ng/ml (ref .25-12)..."

With a range of near zero (0.25) all the way to 12.0,  your result of only 2.5 is pretty far towards the minimum end of the scale.

I know BOTH libido and the ability to get an erection that testosterone is required.  Even a lot of a women's sex drive is controlled by Testosterone.  So it may make sense to look towards boosting testosterone as a possibility.

Your labs for thyroid don't seem too far out of whack.

So I would look in that direction.  I now see advertisements on TV for prescription drugs to help men with low testosterone.  And they specifically talk about energy levels and low sex drive.  So it seems like there may be some possibility here.

I think that vigorous exercise can help raise testosterone but I think it would be pretty small. But there are certainly other health benefits to exercise and should do it anyhow.  But the raw power of prescription medication would certainly have effect.

Like I said.  I'm no expert.  Just my thoughts on the matter.

Is erectile dysfunction a side effect of the medication?

If you didn't have this problem before you started taking the medication and now you have it, it would lead one to think the medication may be a cause.

If so, then maybe you can talk to your Dr. about prescribing a different brand or type of medication is in order and you may tolerate it better without the same side effects?

I would also talk to the Dr. about the testosterone levels.

I agree that your thyroid levels don't indicate that you are hypo; however, since your FT4 is higher in its range than your FT3, I might wonder if you have an issue converting FT4 to FT3.

Were there any antibody tests done to see if you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.  Have you had thyroid ultra sound?

Are those lab test AFTER your medication or before you started with thyroid meds?

Reason why I ask is that none of those numbers seem to indicate hypo.  In fact most people seem to feel good or "normal" whatever that means when the Free T3 & Free T4 are in the upper one third of the range.  Which your labs indicate they are just at or slightly above that range.

What other symptoms are you having that would indicate you are low thyroid?

I'm no expert.  But it appears the Testosterone may be a bit low.  This too would certainly result in low libido and possibly erectile issues.

The real question I have is what changed?  You said this all happened 3 to 4 months ago kind of suddenly.  Is stress at work or something else causing changes?  What about diet?  Other factors influencing your life?

There are a few guys on here who have hypothyroidism and I'm sure they may be more helpful than I am; however, I do know that it's not uncommon to have low libido when hypo.

Are you on a thyroid medication?  If so, which one, at what dosage?

Can you post your most recent thyroid lab results, along with the reference ranges, as these ranges vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.

Knowing what your actual thyroid levels are, will help members comment more fully on your particular situation.
