Fibrocystic Breast Disease and Thyroid Swelling

Any women out there with FBD and thyroid ****?  I have been doing some reading and it seems they are very much related and one of the treatments for FBD is thyroid hormones.  I guess it just begs the question ---- what the he// is wrong with me?  My thyroid labs have never been out of range and this year is just plain painful with my boobs and my neck.  Fed up here!  No one has ever checked my iodine levels.....I have read that can be the cause for both.  My gyn is great but is coming up empty on what I can do for the pain that lasts virtually all month long and my ent still doesn't know why the Armour is helping me with other symptoms, but not my swelling, and why my thyroid levels have never been out of range with my swelling thyroid.  Back to square 1 and just ticked about it I guess.

Funny you should say that. I always wonder if your doctors listen to you.

The dr. office just called me before i left for lunch, they have moved up my appt. to tomorrow. I had an ultra sound done Monday, could not tell you what they were looking for.

As far as the mass, well she told me she was sending my records to some neurosurgeon to get his opinion on what to do. My husband told her last time he went with me that "the mass is the problem", but my doctor doubts it has anything to do with it.

I will let you know tomorrow afternoon when i get back from appt.

You can vent to me any time.  I just wish they would have gotten on top of your condition a few months ago (when you were at least 96 lbs!)  I think I remember you saying they cannot remove the pelvic mass?  What are they going to do about it?  Of course, that could be the problem.  Just sitting too long is the doc's problem!!!  My goodness.  Please keep me posted!!!  I've been wondering about you!

I am down to 88lbs. The doctor is concerned about my weight, but she can not put a finger on it. They did the throat scope, i think to make sure i was not making myself throw up, i told them if i was i would not have the constipation problems and i would be defiecent in alot of vitamins (I am not). They have also questioned my husband on my eating habits, he was honest with them and told them i eat like a pig up until going to bed, then I complain about "i should not have eaten so late, or so much", then I deal with the constipation. I am not anemic.

I request copies of all my medical records once a month, seeing as i go to my doctor about every 2 weeks. The last medical copies i got my doctor notes says "suspect malignancy but of undetermined orgin", do not believe it is Endocrine related."

I am having my submandibular gland removed because of a complex mass that has grown in size in the area since May. They are not even going to do a biopsy before surgery, they are just quickly removing it, and will see what is going on with my neck glands. I did ask if it could have any relation to the other mass in my pelvis that they do not know what it is and the location makes all but impossible to biopsy. I don't think she ever answered that question.

Here is my theory on why my body is the way it is.  Back in 94 they took forever to diagnose my hyperthyroidism/graves disease so it literally threw my body out of whack, glands, hormones, blood, you name it, IT was screwed up. When i went in for an US, they could not release me because my HR was 140 BPM and that was sitting down an hour. Imagine what it did to my body for 6 months of overacting organs and hormones. not knowing something was dangerously wrong, but my dr. at the time kept wanting me to try different anti-depressants. Put it this way, I was given insulin shots off the bat when i was admitted because my body thought i was diabetic, although i was not. My kidneys kept having protein in the urine, but no infections. My eyes will yes they unfortunately were affected, they protude and there is not one thing to help that.

Sorry, did not mean to vent too you.

For the life of me Totie - I just don't understand why they don't see the weight loss as a concern.  I bet a strong wind could take you away by now.  What surgery are you finally getting?  I so hope all will level out for you - yours has been a very hard road.

Sorry to hear about your on going he//. Are you sure they checked all your glands in the neck area? I mean all of them?

I still think i am being over medicated, but the ENDO says the lab range is fine. Mine seems to fluctuate. In May TSH was 2.19, in July TSH .5, last test TSH .95. They can not tell me why it goes up and down all the time, i am just a strange patient. But I still have all the symptoms, weight loss being the biggest concern. Still eating, but losing. I am going to see a GI doctor now, wonderful another specialist....

I know the feeling of "we don't know why". I told my husband i am going to stop worrying about it and show up for the appts./ test to amuse my doctor. I give up...

Still scheduled for surgery next week, can't stop losing weight, and can not retain any liquids, not very good if your having surgery. I do have an appt. with my PCP about me being able to survive surgery and nicely asking to lower my thyroid dosage...
