Anybody gone hyper after many years of stable hypo?

I can't seem to post to the doc's site it's always full (for months)....I've been hypo for over 20 years, on stable .175 Synthroid after starting at .5 and slowly increases for about 5 of the early years...all of a sudden I've gone hyper and my TSH has plummeted to almost zero.  Has this happened to anyone and do you know what caused it?  I was always told that my thyroid had "burnt out"....

Its not really that rare. Many of us have it. Your thyroid is dying from the attacks. Some points in time it decides to work again, making you hyper.Even years after being on medicine. Go to stopthehthyroidmadness.com explains it a lot

Sure I have Hashi's -- tested 20 years ago, but typically after 20 years you don't see something like this, neither doc nor endo have an explanation and simply say "its rare" so I wondered just "how rare" and if anyone discovered that it was something different.

Actually Cynnie brings up a good thought - but testing for only Hashi is half the answer.

You should have a complete antibody testing of both Hashi TPO and Graves TSI testing to see if you are in an autoimmune situation.

have you been tested for hashis???? I have gone hyper this year, its when your thyroid gland decides to work! Make sure they check that out

You have me beat at 20 years, but I was hypo for about a year before I turned Hyper. Been on methimazole for almost 2 years now. It's rare, but can happen. Sometimes also it's induced by meds- your body changes and the medications affect changes too. What does your doctor say?
