question

Was diagnosed with thyroid problems in Feb. Thought I might have had symptoms for years.  Runs in my family.  Took the levothyroxine daily for a couple of months.  When I was taking it in the morning before food, I would wake up at night hot and sweaty.  Stopped taking it daily and don't have those problems anymore, but the hot and sweaty is because of the levothyroxine because when I don't take it I am fine. What should I do??

Your TSH is high, and the ranges used on this test are kind of obsolete, the ranges used by good Endo's are 0.3 to 3.0 or 3.5 and yours would indicate your thyroid is underactive, and would contribute to high cholesterol and elavated BP. and a host of other symptoms that most of us deal with, You should find a good Thyroid MD, Endocrinologists cover thyroid, But you need two important tests to start off with and those are Free T4 and Free T3, TSH is a Pituitary Hormone,  You do not want an MD that treats you by TSH alone and its ranges only, they should treat based on your symptoms and your Free T3 )As this is the actual Thyroid hormone your body needs to function, You may also want to request an Anti-body test to determine if your thyroid issues are caused by an Auto-Immune disease called Hashimoto's Thyroiditus, it is a common cause of Hypothyroid/Underactive.
This happens, when for some reason your immune system does not recognize your thyroid and attacks it, thus reducing the production of thyroid hormones. You can Google "Hashimoto's Thyroiditus for more information and symptoms. Welcome to the Forum and feel free to Post with any additional questions regarding thyroid. Best Regards FTB4

Ok just got home from work and got the lab paper I don't think there is any other thyroid levels besides the TSH level which is 6.22 it was just a routine general blood panel that was drawn for a work wellness program.  Results were sent to our regular doctor.  The reference range is .450-4.5. It lists my hematocrit, RBC, t.cholesterol/hdl ratio, ldl cholesterol calc, hdl cholesterol, total cholesterol, serum phosphorus, serum chloride, serum potassium, serum sodium and bun/creatinine ratio all as high.  Many other values and tests were given, but those are the ones that were flagged on the sheet.  So not sure if this helps.
