T3, T4 and TSH are normal

Hi,

These are my latest thyroid report tests:

Test name         Mine                                  Normal range
T3                     1.29 ng/ml                          0.86-1.87
T4                     10.90 mcg/dl                       4.5-12.5
TSH                   0.10 mlu/ml                        0.4-4.0

I was taking Eltroxin 100 mg (Past 8 years). Thenn I started with 150 mg (Last 15 days).
As symptoms of Thyroid are still there with their major effects.

These reports seems normal then why still I have the all the problems of Hypothyrodism (Dry skin, Major constipation and thinned hair)

I have been taking "Eltroxin" for past 8 years to cure Hypothyrodism. (100 mg)

I have carried out the T3-T4 tests recently they are in the specified limit.

But stll I suffer from almost all symptoms of Hypothyrodism like
1. Major constipation.
2, Very dry skin.
3. Thinned hair.

I have read about the Free T3 and Free T4, do I need to carry out this test?

I have heard that Eletroxin does not converet T3 from T4, but my reports says that it is in normal range.

Then WHY WHY WHY... i'M STILL FACING THE PROBLEM.

Can some one PLEASE PLEASE guide me.

(My TSH is low than normal range it  means now I'm facing hyperthyrodism, but all symptoms are of Hypothyrodism, can you please explain)

You should get your vitamin b12 levels checked as well. I only started to feel better when I found out mine were very low and got injections to bring them back up. Apparently thyroid problems can affect b12 in our body as well as birth control can also affect it.

I feel alive again for the first time in over a year. :):):)

New Zealand does not have the same thyroid meds available as in the U.S.

I'm sure they have more than one choice, but I don't think Synthroid is one of them.

I'm not sure Armour is one, either. Armour or it's equivelent should be taken with caution. Not everyone can tolerate the additional T3 that is in it. Your Free T3 should not go above lab limits. You will be hyperthyroid if your Free T3 is above lab limits.

There is not a single medication on the market that has no side effects at all. Most people do not have problems with side effects, but if you look in a drug referrence guide, every single medicine manufactured and tested has POTENTIAL side effects.

I am an advocant of Armour thyroid. I have done Synthroid in the past and it did not work at all for me.

Lot of docs will only go by labs and not symptoms - this will be the problem for you if you doctor only goes by labs.

let us know the tests.

Hi Stella,

Okay if after dignosis of Free-T3 and Free-T4 if it is found that they are not in the desired ranges... (And finally if we find the actual problem after years...)
Then what medicies should we take which has got no side effects and proven.
Any suggestions so I'll talk to doc.

Simple rule of testing thyroid function:

It's the FREE testing that is moving through the system!"

"bound" up hormones do nothing. and that is what straight T testing is .... absolutely useless.

concern your self with the reformulated thyroid med you are on. Call your pharmicist and get that information. THEY HAVE IT and take to to your doctor and DEMAND something else.

Hi Stella,

Thanks for your information. So bottomline is I need to carry out the free-T3 and free-T4 tests.

Will this make a clear picture of what actually is imbalanced in the body and I'll get a rescue from the problems which I have been facing since long-long years.

Can I get my normal life back??

Actually Thanks to you, Your reply is showing ray of hope to me.

below is part of the article PM me if you need additional information on this.

June 7 -- Folks in New Zealand are up in arms, because a reformulation of the drug Eltroxin (a brand name of levothyroxine manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline) appears to be causing problems in thyroid patients. Patients taking Eltroxin (which is government funded in New Zealand) are reporting all sorts of side effects and symptoms since the drug was recently reformulated.

There is a report I just read on the Eletroxin being very inconsistant in it's dosages lately. I think you may be having issues with this.

Do you have Synthroid (from Abbott labs) or Armour (Forest Labs) available to you? If you can push to get on that - DO IT.

T3 and T4 are useless tests to get to the bottom of symptoms. You need FREE T3 and FREE T4 testing. Call you doctor annd demand those.

TSH is not so important as the FREE T3 is. and FREE T3 should be on the high end (even over the range) to make the symptoms disappear.

I hate to say it - but you are still hypothyroid and are still suffering symptoms.
