It is a scan of the parathyroid. Unless you get a technician who scans MANY parathyroids, then you may get a false negative because the scan technique is tricky. As far as I know, it is safe.
Go to www.parathyroid.com for more information.

Hi,
I beleive it is a special type of x-ray for scanning of the parathyroids, to look for an abnormal parathyroid gland. I don't think there is high risk involved. It is done when there is hyperparathyroid. It enables identification of which gland is abnormal, so it can be removed, without affecting the other healthy glands.
You could google it to get more info on what exactly it is and the procedure.
