There are dozens of reasons on the why - how come - and possibilities why a thyroid stops working - or over works!!
dental filling - bottles water - smoking- stress - family history - taking birth control - certain foods -
the list is endless.
From whay I have read lately Eltroxin is not very stable in dosages lately. You may want to try and switch to NAME BRAND Synthroid or try a T3 T4 combo med.
I get my bloodwork done frequently and he tests for it all. I just don't know what caused my thyroid to stop funcitoning so that I need to take the Eltroxin.
just ask for the blood work. my dr is old fashioned and not upto to date on everything, he just did bloods for t4 and tsh. i have asked for anitbodies and t3 to be done, he was fine about it, and turns out i have plenty of antibodies :) i feel i like i'm teaching him about this :)
I am as confused as u r, I was told I have hashimotos, but not medicated like jax190...all drs treat their paitents diff. so u have to ask ur dr , like I am going to at my next appt.

I don't have a diagnosis but am medicated if that helps. They have not given a name to my thyroid swelling but my blood levels for everything they test me for is fine. I hope that helps in some way by letting you know you're not alone in not knowing.
ive never been given a reason i just assumed in some people it stopped then i saw notes that said i had hashimotos but i was never tested so i dont really know why mine stopped either
