Sorry, I just saw your comments from 2/5/14....
What "improvement" is your doctor seeing? If you still don't feel well, you haven't improved... Is she targeting TSH over symptoms?
Yes --- time for another doctor!!!
Just spoke to my Dr.who indicated my numbers are all normal ranged and she won't change anything right now. The only thing I am taking right now is 100 mcg levothyroxine. I feel awful all over. Dr. Says 100 mcg has shown an improvement in 6 weeks and it should continue to improve. Is it time to find a new Dr.?
Do you know if any doctor prescribes Cytomel, at least? I agree, your TT3 being low may indicate your FT3 is also low. You probably need some T3.
I was on Armour for quite a few years when I still had a thyroid. Caught a real bad upper respiratory infection after a cruise. Dr. Rxing me Armour retired and can't find any doctor that will prescribe Armour. When I got sick with the Uri 9 years ago I had to go to a new Dr. Who rx levothyroxine. ENT Dr. Had cat scans that showed during those 9 years my goitre increased from 1.2 cm to 4.0 cm. He sent me to general surgeon who did a total thyroidectomy because my symptoms were both hyper and hypo. Pathology was multinodular colloid goitre hemorrhaging from within. Not sure which way to turn now.
The first problem I see is that your doctor is testing TT3, rather than Free T3, but even at that, your Total T3 is quite low in the range. With your relatively high FT4, that would indicate that you aren't converting the T4 to T3. You might want to talk to your doctor about supplementing with a T3 med, such as cytomel or a T4/T3 combo, such as desiccated thyroid hormones like Armour, ERFA, etc.
