Hi, I am new here.My TSH was 99 before 6 weeks. My doctor put me on 25mcg of synthyroid. Now it dropped to 8. But still my doctor wants to put me on 50mcg last week.My free t4 raised from 5.2pmol/L to 15.1pmol/L, quite good change. I believe 50mcg will help my level to become normal.
I'd be careful here. Might not be Cytomel as this is a prescription med. try talking with your doctor. Bring in the article from Dr. Lowe's site. I actually talked to Dr. low about this on the phone. You can probably talk with his wife Tammy about it for free. To visit with dr. Lowe there is a conult fee around $4.00 per min. I really think your doctor should attempt to get the t3 atleast into range. What is the t4 level? Maybe there is room to raise your t4 med a little and then hopefully the t3 might raise a little with the conversion process.
they did a level 2 ultrasound and the thryoid is ok, but yeah we just hit the 3rd trimester and t3 levels are 18 (22-35) I can see getting flak from the endo about t3 meds. Might just buy some cytomel online (thank goodness for weightlifters creating a market to get it easily.)
There is a great article about this on www.thyroidscience.com by Dr. Lowe (Pregnant Women and Their Newborns:Among the Victims of T4 replacement. It is about the importance of having enough available t3 in the body while pregnant. You really should read it especially since you are being treated with t4 only and your t3 is elivated. My daughter was born without a thyroid gland in 2000. I often wondererd why? This could be the reason? Maybe I slipt into hypothyroidism during pregnancy and didn't know it? All I know is that I did have some post -pardum depression (the baby blues) and hair loss after each of my 3 pregnancies. ( hypothyroidism (low t3) could actually be the cause of post pardum depression) They say t3 levels can dip the lowest in your life during the 3rd trimester, so that could have been the cause of this? Who knows what mine where as no one ever checked. As far as my daughter goes, when she is pregnant someday in the far off future, I will be sure she keeps that freet3 level at a high normal range, as I don't want this passed on to anoyther generation, (her child and my grandchildren) Lord knows that I do not want to deal with this ever again! Congenital Hypothyroidism is VERY stressful for all involved! Be overly cautious with those levels as you want to take every precaution to insure that your baby is born with a thyroid gland. God's Blessings to you and your baby!
levels were tsh 2.61 as of nov 1 and a second lab was 2.63 with the ft4 at 1.4 of a high range of 1.8 and ft3 279 range of 230-420. They just raised synthroid to 137 and wants to see us again in 2 months but we've got a gyno appt in 3 weeks and they're going to check the levels then so we will know before 2 months how things are. The levels probably dropped right after that lab of tsh6.13 where they raised it to 125mcg. there wasnt' another lab after that until this last on nov 1st. Not ideal with the ft3 on the lower side but the t4s are very good. Anyone know how this is all used by the baby? That would be some great info! Thanks and God Bless!
Total t4 was 10.2 in a range of 4.5-12.5 no ft4 but did a panel fri at the obgyn and doing another for the endo next week and those will have the ft4 too. Will post when I get them. Thanks
i would suggest that you go to the peadiatric endocrinologist forum or peadiatric forum and ask the question there. Im a Hashimoto's patient had my baby with it 8 months ago - yes its true that it takes 5-6 weeks before optimum result is seen but what worries me it that you are 8 weeks pregnant - if im correct? and your levels are 6.13
It should be between 1-2 - im also not sure if baby gets uptake before mom - but do know that higher that 1-2 TSH during pregnancy can put you at higher risk for miscarrige.
Don't want to scare you but if i were you i would ask questions at he forums with other Dr's and just get there input as well
All the best for a happy, healthy pregnancy
Your endo is right - it takes about 5-6 weeks after a dosage change for the med to build in your system so you can get the full effect.
I'm not familiar with how it works in a pregnancy, but I'm sure someone else will help out with that. I don't know if the baby gets it before mom or not --- that's for someone familiar with that.
Your FT3 is at the low end of the range. Did you have an FT4 test? If so, what was that result, along with the reference range?
I do know that stress can have a profound effect, so if you can, please try to remain calm. I know it's not easy when you are worried about your baby, but stress isn't good for him/her either.
