I have Graves and mine is hereditary (luck of the Irish so they say ...NOT! ) lol.
One sis has Graves too and the other sis has Hashi's.
A nephew had IGA (immune disease) too.
So looks like autoimmune diseases are rampant in my family.

Regardless of what we "know" there has to be a reason why the immune system attacks the thyroid. There has to be a reason why we can go into remission. I just want to know!!" -quote

You need your freeT3 and freeT4 tested, read about.
No know way to get Hashis into remission. Its an Autoimmune disease, for life. Just like Graves- but that's hypER.
Forget about your antibodies, OK? They will remain. Dont freak out.
The reasons as to why the antibodies start attacking is not yet proven. One theory is all humans have the antibodies in very small amounts and something else causes them to escalate. It used to be a lack of iodine. Other possible causes, heavy metals like mercury, fluoride, cadmium, over uses of preservatives and chemicals in western diets. Plastic food containers, radiation - (nuclear and RF) the list is endless. Even gluten. There are threads here on this a mile long if you can figure out how to archive it. Also a link on antibodies on the bottom of the link list in the health pages here - upper right hand ' button -icon' on this page.
Oh, another note.
My thyroid hormones are normal now. Still have the antibodies. Despite 45-120 mins of exercise a day, I still can not loose the weight I gained when things went haywire.
Any thoughts?
Thank you both for your responses.
Yes, I was officially diagnosed with Hashimoto's a few years ago. My TPO numbers vary with the tests.
I did some more research. Some of the information out there suggests that added selenium to your diet (and making sure you are ingesting enough calcuim, magnesium, copper, zinc, and Vit D) will help the TPO/thyroid.
None of the dr's every said H was for life. Or that the TPO's can not go away... dang them.

I take a combined 600mcg Calcium / Vit. D and my levels have been good and mine were low too after RAI.
As for the antibodies......They dont 'go away'.
Mine are dormant since RAI and TT (I have Graves Disease) but sometimes I know they have 'flared up',
I assume you still have a thyroid?
All the while you have a thyroid, they will not into 'remission' I reckon.
My Graves antibodies were over 4000.
Not trying to bignote myself but to show you that yours are low compared to others.
It makes no difference how high they are.....its the fact that they are there and there for life.
Mine will 'surface; again no doubt.......but not much you can do about it.
Back in November did your doctor mention you have Hashimotos disease? It does not go away. TPO will remain, they are antibodies. Hypo Thyroid medicine is replacement hormone, it does not eliminate (kill) antibodies. Not realy a range, there is nothing to adjust, its realy a 'you have or you dont' kind of thing. The HIGH just means you test positive, and always will. Welcome to the club.
Dont know about your D issues.
