Pregnant and worried

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been on 100mcg of levothyroxine daily. I am 22 weeks pregnant and wonder how and if this disease affects my baby?

Hi, your thyroid levels should be checked regularly through the pregnancy.  My endo tested every 4 weeks throughout.  TSH should be in the range of 1 -2 and FT3/FT4 should be right at the top of the reference range.

Thyroid levels are critical to the health and devleopment of the baby.

It is normal to have to increase thyroid meds by up to 50% during pregnancy.

Insist on your doctor testing and adjusting.

let us know how you go.

To my knowledge, and my experience, it only affects trying to get pregnant, but doesn't affect the baby as long as your levels are ok and you take your levothyroxine every day like you are suppose to.  I have hypothyroid and have had it for 17 years.  I now have three boys.  One is going on 17, the other 12 and the last one is 8.  They are all ok.  My last child is autistic, but that has nothing to do with the thyroid.
