RTA

Mname is Kieran Simpson i am from Manchester and recently i have contacted alot of eye hospitals but the help has been very limited.
I was involved in a road traffic accident back in april 2009 and suffered severe head injuries  causing visual problems, because of the TBI my right eye does NOT seem to track at all causing double vision. One year on and the TBI i can deal with but the visual problem is very frustrating and i am now limited to what activities i can do.I am writing to ask if there is some treatment available or am i to just give up hope. :(
.
My head injuries;

basal skull #
bilateral 6th nerve palsy
left facial nerve palsy
polytrauma secondary to RTA

I had facial nerve decompression and i am recieving treatment at the lyndons clynic in Manchester which specializes in facial palsy.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Bilateral 6th nerve palsies at times recover without any problem within a year. However in your case that time period too has gone. If it is complete palsy then I am sorry nothing can be done. However if there is some function in the eye then some corrective surgeries and physiotherapy can be tried. Otherwise I am very sorry to say there is nothing much which can be done.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi

the one thing we must never do is GIVE UP, what seemed impossible two to three hears ago is now being achieved just recently I read an article where someone under went massive surgery and received a face transplant.  Science and medicine are breaking new ground everyday, so DO NOT GIVE UP.

Best wishes Paul

What would you class as complete palsy ? as it is in my right eye it has no trouble looking upp down and towards my nose but jumps back n fourth on trying to look outward. would this b classed as still functoinal ? and also if i cannot be treated will my brain adapt to this concentraiting the visoin into one eye ? Many thanks for your help.
