can this happen?

Our daughter was in an automobile accident in 2002. That night we took her to ER.
They only did x rays. -Well she could not sleep and complained of seeing bright colored
lights in the dark and not much of anything else. The next gay she feel alseep and the same thing started again.
No Night vison- only colored lights. She had a cat scan two weeks later which only showed some contusion
to the ocupital lobe . The doctor said the lights might could happen with that. The lights  stopped  had after two years, but now come back on rainy days.
she has never got back  her sleep pattern back and she has a changed personally ever since.
Can this all be from a small head injury.

Hi,

The occipital lobe is the centre of our visual perception system. The visual illusions that your daughter is seeing are most likely because of the injury to the occipital lobe. The sleep pattern however is not governed by the occipital lobe. It is quite possible that this accident has caused her a lot of stress which has resulted in her disturbed sleep and also some personality changes. Some reassurance from your side will help. You can also try counseling.

Hi there.

I'm sorry to learn what happened.  The effects of the trauma should have already recovered by now, however, it is also not uncommon for some persistent symptoms to remain.  The contusion may have caused some long lasting injury to the brain parenchyma and underlying white matter.  Nevertheless, this should be better assessed by a neurologist and possibly have a repeat imaging study of the brain.

Regards and God bless.
