When the first few excruciating oral pain occurred, my dentist (and thereafter a few orthodontists) were stymied. The symptoms (which one of them induced by touching a metal probe to one of my amalgam fillings) occur at unpredictable times, as excruciating electric shocks that zap the same part of my face and the same teeth, for varying lengths of time and intensity; my facial skin just below and to the right of my nose, becomes extremely sensitive to touch and can trigger the intense pain; and, I can't put my teeth together b/c when a couple of them touch it feels like they're abscessed! I have been x-rayed, probed, and drilled, and even had two root-canals done on the same tooth for no apparent reason. My dentist finally admits that he and the orthodontists don't have a clue what is going on or how to help me! So now I just punch through the pain, suffering days while waiting for the episodes to peter out and eventually stop. Today, I've barely eaten anything solid ... are there any doctors out there who actually know what's going on and how to treat this condition?
