I have tn and palsey of 4th cranial nerve. I to have mouth symtoms. Burning edge of tounge, sore throat that lasts only minutes, tooth aches that last only minutes, burning sinuses, lower jaw pain that runs to front teeth, ear aches that last a few minutes all of this on rt. side of face. These are in addition to the stabbing jolts across the entire side of face especially near eye/temple area.
This has improved for me alot since taking tegratol xr, lyrica, baclofen. Still have pain but not as severe. Eye pain is near constant but I have learned to just accept it. I do not meditate exactly, but I do not focus on the pain, I have learned to breathe through some of it, I focus on relaxing specific muscles usually starting in my feet, it usually helps if the pain attack is short lived at least it gets me through until the next.
Any dr. who calls this nothing but neuralgia is a cruel person indeed. My pain is brain numbing. The mouth pain and choking are very scarey. I am no longer afraid but that only helps so much. It is still torture. I do not put any stock in the psychological aspect of the problem for most people, tension and fear at the time of an attack certainly makes it worse but does not cause it. The emotional toll it takes can be overwhelming but should not be confused with the fact that this is a physical problem. Counseling for any pain syndrome can be very useful and avoiding whatever it is that sets off your tn is crucial. I have tried transendential meditation and still practice it for my health in general but in the middle of an attack, the best I can manage as I said earlier is breathing and focusing on relaxation of some other part of my body. hope this helps.
