Hi! Around 5 years ago or so, a oval red patch started under my left eye. It was around the size of a quarter. It wasn't raised. itchy, or painful...it was just there...like someone had painted a red oval spot under my eye. I obviously didn't like it, but it wasn't hurting me so I didn't panic about it. Until that spot grew across the left of my face in entirety and it also spread under my chin and neck. Over time it made its way to my hairline, next to my ear and up onto my temple. I don't know if it has anything to do with this, but I then started losing the hair along my hairline, over my ear and up across the top of my head where my bangs begin. The hair didn't come out in long strands when I brushed it that I noticed. It was more like the hair broke and came out in small pieces if that makes any sense? I have always had extremely thick hair and now the bangs that I have left are much thinner and feel very fragile....I feel like they are just gonna put out when I brush my hair or even if I was to just give them a tug. Actually, I do believe that some hair has come out this easily. The hair next to my left temple and above my ear is now patchy and looks and feels almost like baby fuzz. Sometimes I can see and feel new hair growing back, but then a week or so later, I am back to a completely bald spot. This is so humiliating! I should also mention that I am 39 yrs old. I do have hypothyroidism but according to my recent blood tests it is being managed well by synthroid. I was also tested for lupus and it came out negative. I have a variety of other health problems going on as well along with quite a list of meds that I am on. I also have severe central sleep apnea which is not being treated yet due to other issues. Now that I am writing this, I realize that this is a very complex issue that can't be answered simply so I guess my revised question is in your opinion which specialty of doctor do you think that I should see? A dermatologist or an endocrinologist or some kind of different specialty? I would REALLY appreciate your opinion! I live in a very small town in Wisconsin and my doctors don't address these issues. I feel like it is up to me to figure out what is going on with me. I do feel that all the problems that I am experiencing throughout my body are all connected. Oh and I have a chronic neurological pain syndrome called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is both of my legs from my hips to my toes! I really need someone's help...I can't figure this out on my own! Thank you in advance for any time you take answering my questions and I apologize for it being so complex, but any ideas or just pointing me in the direction that I should go would be greatly appreciated!
