Chronic Cough

Good afternoon,
I have quit smoking a year and a half ago and that has led to a chronic cough. Since I have also developed a problem urinating. I feel like I have to go all the time but not much seems to comes out. I am also feeling a sore groin area. Could this be the direct result of my chronic coughing?
Thank you very much.

Hi,

Cough creates increased intra-abdominal pressure, which may be causing you more injury in an inguinal/groin region as well as the abdomen as a whole.

Chronic cough may therefore aggravate your injury and also to an extent not allowing the injured area to heal properly.

Chronic sinusitis may need continuous monitoring and based on the regular correct treatment, this may heal.

Therefore, if you work closely with an ear nose and throat specialist or an allergy specialist, along with a surgeon, you will be able to sort out the problems.

Hope this helped. let me know if you may have any other queries

I am 37 years of age.
My lung funciton is fine. My sinuses are bad. My turbine has closed off my left nostril. When I was younger I had my adnoids removed.
Blood tests show the prostate is of normal size and also urine tests show no infection.
About 6 months ago I suffered a blow to the groin area and I have has this pain since.
A recent CT scan shows a minimal prominence in the superior portion of the left inguinal canal, this is also the area that I am experiencing the pain. My doctor has referred me to a surgeon to do some exploritory surgery. My left testicle is also very sore and I know the spermatic chord runs through my inguinal canal. Could my coughing be agrivating the problem and not allowing the injury to heal?
Thank you very much..

Hi,

What is your age?

Has a chest xray and CT scan of your sinuses been done? Do you have any fever or sputum production? Has a lung function test been done?

Have you had allergic reactions in the past? Are you allergic to any specific substances?

Do you have any other symptoms like breathlessness, reflux symptoms or heartburn or nasal symptoms like nasal discharge etc.

Chronic cough is usually seen in cases of asthma, GERD or gastro esophageal reflux disease and sinusitis due to the post nasal drip. You should also talk to your doctor about whether this could be a bacterial infection, viral infection or tuberculosis.

You should try steam inhalation, warm saline gargles, saline nasal drops and oral antihistamine medications and see if it helps with your symptoms. If you have symptoms of reflux, you should try some antireflux, antinausea medications.

The cough could be if you are a chronic smoker. If the cough still persists, it would be best to consult your doctor and also get a chest xray done to rule out a chest infection.

You should see a doctor to rule out a urine infection, prostate enlargement for the problems you are having while urination.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Regards.
