spots on lungs

my 84 yr old mother-in-law has been told she has little white spots on her lungs. she has always been active -used to be able to exercise by walking  the halls in their apt for 2 hours/day yet about 7 months ago she started feeling tired out and was told maybe a heart valve trouble but all tests came back negative.

since then she has been sent to hospital for multiple tests.....a month ago she picked up 'something' in the hospital and now has lost all her strength.

- now she sits most days, she has to rest for an hour after getting dressed in the morning and no walking. she said one doctor said she picked up the super bug, yet another said she did not.

she believes the doctor say her muscles in her lungs are not helping her breathing so the heart is working harder to do it all.

she has lost most of her skin colour-pale almost white skin-her daughter said she looks way older every week now. her next dr test in September-we are afraid she will be a gonner by then :0(

any advice?

I hear what you are saying and wonder if your health was a gradual change? my mother-in-law went from active to without breath in about a month.

About 20 years ago a chiropractor took x-rays of my chest, back etc. before beginning to manipulate my spine.  There were white spots on my lungs which he explained were calcium deposits.  He said that the calcium had left the bone and had deposited themselves in the blood vessels - some in the lungs.  It can be a sign of osteopenia or osteoporosis.

Hope the doctor gets the results of the blood test soon.  When a cause is found, it can then be treated correctly.

If your mother-in-law does not feel like eating, make sure she is drinking plenty of juices, water, soup, so that she does not become dehydrated.

Best wishes.

Before September it may be a good idea to get your mother-in-law to have a blood test for anaemia and Vitamin B group deficiency.  A lot of elder folk are deficient in B12.  Anaemia can cause pale skin and extreme tiredness.

It may be the case that she does have a serious problem with her lungs, but her consultant should let her or a next of kin know what it is.

If she has picked up a bug in the hospital, that will have weakened her.  Tell her not to over exert herself and drink and eat healthily.

Sometimes there is no cure and although it is hard to accept, be there for her when she needs you.

Hope she does recover soon, but as she is quite mature, it takes longer for older people to recover.

best wishes.
