High WBC's and High Neutrophils

I went in on 3/2/10 for blood work for a new job. I received a call the next day the my WBC's were elevated to 17.0 and my Lymphs % was 14.2. They suggested I see my PMD. I went to him on 3/4/10 and bloodwork was obtained. The results of that set of bloodwork showed my WBC's elevated even more to 19.7, absolute neutrophils 16134, and monocytes 965. C-reactive protein was 0.11 (which is normal). X-rays of chest and back were fine from my understanding. Every third day at work I do a mile on the treadmill or elliptical and work out on the Bowflex, all in all about 30 minutes worth of working out. I feel fine, I have been stressed lately and I do smoke a pack a day. But I had bloodwork last year and it was fine. Not really sure what is going on. My wife is a registered nurse and thinks I have CML. Doctor wants me to return on 3/22/10 for more bloodwork. Please help. Thanks

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
High WBC is seen in any infection or inflammation and can be also high in cancers. What is important is to do a peripheral blood smear and spot abnormal or precursor cells there. Also if blood leukemia of any kind is suspected then peripheral blood smear will be done. A whole body scan is done to look for lymph node enlargement.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
