Large mass in left butt cheek near anus

50 yr old male.  Over the course of the last week i noticed that my left buttock has attained a rather sizeable lump under the skin.  If you imagine the area of skin hidden by contact with the opposing buttock, this lump covers about half that area, and vertically in line with the anus.  I feel no pain but it does seem to feel more inflated when i sit on the toilet.  It almost feels like an extra muscle in firmness but i know it cant be.  Its not noticable visually but is a bizarre region of unexplained firmness without being necessarily tender or anything like that.  Is it possible to have a rectal hernia?  I have no idea, please advise.

Any abnormal growth should be examined by a physician.    Please do not put this off because it is not causing pain at this time.  Better to catch it earlier in its process, rather than later, when it might actually cause you more serious issues.  Good luck!
