I had both my children vaginally and tore with both. I know I had an episiotomy with my firstborn (who was bigger than my second child). I am not sure my issues are related to childbirth. It seems the swelling came on quickly. Never realized it could be due to constipation. Just seemed I noticed it while trying to relieve myself from it. I will definitely check out all the products everyone has mentioned.
I have a question regarding the births of your children. I have a similar issue, and mine was caused by childbirth. Did you deliver vaginally, and if so, did the birth result in tearing, even with an episiotomy? I had my son via vagina delivery, and I suffered 3rd degree tearing in spite of an episiotomy, because he was 10lbs. This tearing caused a weakening of the muscles in the rectum, which has shifted and left a pocket (the best way I can describe it). I have also developed a few small hemorrhoids as a result. When they become irritated by bowel movements or pressure, they will swell. I would suggest talking to your doctor to see if they think that you should see a gastroenterologist. I ended up seeing a GI specialist as a result of other issues, and as would be expected, I was told to eat a high fiber diet and drink plenty of water. This does help to keep the intestines functioning properly (and is healthy for you in general). If this is not something you have experienced (birth issue), I would still look into whether or not you should see a GI specialist. The colon cleansing is also a good idea, as the colon will have build up inside, and it is a healthy practice to cleanse.
