STD?

So last Wednesday I gave oral to my boyfriend (before that it was Saturday, we've only been together a few weeks) and I woke up on Thursday with a sore throats didn't really think much of it but by Saturday I could barely swallow without wincing in pain and my tonsils were HUGE with "bubbles" and white gunk on them. The strep test came back negitive but she swabbed my throat and sent it for a culture and treated me for strep anyways. But the culture ended up coming back negative. The antibiotics took some of the white gunk away and the pain has died down but my tonsils are still huge so they gave me steroids to help the swelling go down. I started freaking out thinking maybe I got an std but I also had my birth control switched a few days ago and they did vaginal swabs for gonorrhea and clamidia and it all came back normal. Is oral a different story do I need them to test that stuff out or should the culture for strep bring back something if I had anything? Is this something I should be worried about or was it just a virus I caught with bad timing?

Side note his roommate was recently sick and it turned out to be a virus but he had a fever cough condensation etc. I just have this throat problem. I also have chronic sinus issues so could that just be part of it?
