Swollen cheek for years that wont go down...

I'm a 29 yr old male and I've had a swollen right cheek for years now. I've been to the dentist to see if it was a tooth problem, but its not. I've also been to two doctors and they have no idea as to what it could be.

The swelling isn't HUGE, but it IS noticeable, especially to me. Sometimes the area will be warm/hot to the touch and sometimes not. There is no pain, but when I touch the area, it feels almost "hard". The other weird thing is that it has this odd red patchy spot that appears over it in one spot from time to time.

It should also be noted that I have sinus/allergy problems, but have been to my allergist who has done a scan of my face to look at my sinus cavities which she says are normal.

This has become a little of a self-esteem dampener for me, as it looks odd. I'm stumped and would really like to find an answer as to what could be causing this issue for me. I've looked all over the internet for answers, but haven't really found something I feel could honestly be the problem.

Must add, I have seen a dermatologist for this problem, actually. She said it was probably just that my body had stored fat that more than the other side. I'm not fat (just a few pounds over weight), so I was a little hesitant to think that. She also mentioned she could take a biopsy, but that was only if it got out of control on swelling.

It does sometimes seem to go down a little, almost to the point being completely gone for days, but it will eventually come back and get large again.

Thanks all and God Bless,

I've heard before that it resembles Lupus, but I don't have any other symptoms (other than the red patch over my cheek) that seem to follow with having Lupus.

I'm going to try and make an appointment this week to see a dr. Even if its something simple, Id like to get it taken care of as, like I mentioned, it makes me a little self-conscious.

Thank you for your advice. If anyone else reads this and has any other suggestions, I'd really like to hear them.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
With a swelling, redness, warmth on cheek, two things should be ruled out. One is a hemangioma and second is lupus. If you have a dental filling on that side then this could also be a chronic allergic reaction. Please consult a doctor to rule out these possibilities.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
