Hello,
Depoprovera shots can cause irregularity in the menstrual cycle as longer or shorter menstrual periods, heavier or lighter periods.Other causes of irregular menstrual periods are high level of stress and anxiety, cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, chain smoking, dramatic changes in your life style,PCOS(polycystic ovarian disease) and fibroid uterus.
Can you identify any of these factors?
Your second symptom of blood in stools may be due to inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal infections and intestinal polyps.Chronic constipation can also lead to darkening of stools and the various causes of chronic constipation have to be probed.Since you are having stools like black mud,so it means that these possibilities are there. The bacteria in your digestive system work to break down the blood as it passes through. So the longer blood stays in your digestive tract, the darker it will become. The farther away is the pathology, the more blackish the stools are.
I feel that a consultation by a gastroenterologist and gynecologist are required to confirm a diagnosis.Thorough investigations are needed like ultrasound uterus,CT abdomen, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy to rule out these possibilities.Your bowel conditions are responsible for your anemia.Hence,my advise is to consult them soon.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
I had a colonoscopy done and the results were normal. The GI doctor just looked to see if I an inflammation. He said he doesn't look for anything else until a person is over 50. He said I have irriatable bowel syndrome and gave me some medicine to try. I just went today. He doesn't think my anemia is related. He said that I should see a Gyn. Problems with that system can cause discomfort in the lower abdomen or a cyst on the ovary. I'm not sure if I should go to another GI doctor to get a second opinion or go see the Gyn. Either one or both.
Hello,
In my opinion, you should see a gynecologist and a gastroenterologist both as black muddy stools can be due to blood in stools at a point farther away from anus or rectum and this needs immediate evaluation.Regarding yur irregular periods, they can be due to depo shots but other possibilities also have to be ruled out before confirming a diagnosis,
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
