Lump in armpit

I discovered a lump under my armpit about 3 months ago. Its not real painful but sometimes my arm does hurt and it even goes numb at times. I just passed it off as a swollen lymph node but since it hasn't went away it is causing me some concern it is approx. an inch long 3/4s of an inch wide and about 1/2 an inch thick it can be moved around and it is under my skin. I know you cant diagnose me without actually seeing me but i was hoping for some kind of direction besides "go see a doctor and have it looked at" I would appreciate any help you could give me on what it could be and what i should do about it besides the obvious ;)

Thanks

Had something very like this when i was 7,  turned out to be a lymph node so infected it had to be completely removed. took forever to heal too.(like 3 weeks before the wound closed completely) I still have a large scar i have to shave around.

it could be a cyst but I think this also has to be removed if it shows no signs of going away.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A lump in armpit can be a swollen lymphnode, in response to fungal infection or sweat dermatitis or infection of hair follicles. It can also be folliculitis or a hair follicle infection. It can also be an enlarged lymphnode due to malignancy of breast (rare in males but not impossible). At times it is a cyst too. Consult your PCP for an evaluation. A CT scan can be confirmatory or a fine needle biopsy.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Thank you all very much for your input, i guess I will finally break down and go to a Dr. and get it checked out. To be honest i was a little worried about it possibly being cancer. Anyways I will get it checked out and keep y'all informed                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Thank you all again,
