Need Help For My Twenty-Four Year Old Daughter

My daughter has been diagnosed with Erythema Nodosum, she has the classic symptoms of lumps in her legs from the knee down.  They swell, feel of fever and are painful and leave buising on her legs.  She is in Grad School and it is very hard on her to walk, because she is also working and on her feet all day.  She does not have insurance since she is over to age to keep her on our insurance.  She is alway looking for any help to ease her pain and I am really worried about her and we have already had her nineteen year old brother go thru Hodgkin Lymphoma and it is a real concern if maybe hers may be some type of cancer, even though she has been tested for everything that is listed it could possibly be related to except the cancer.  She has been told she needs to take B12 shots which can only be prescripted by a Doctors, is there any other sugguestions she could get the B12 thru, like a pill or something?

Hello,

Erythema nodosum is an inflammation of the fat cells under the skin .It causes tender, red nodules that are usually seen on both shins.

The treatment of erythema nodosum consists mainly of non steroidal antiinflammtory medicines(NSAID’S) like aspirin, indomethacin and naproxen.Even colchicines and potassium iodide are useful.I have never heard of vit B 12 shots being given in any patient of erythema nodosum. Is she having some tingling or numbness also?Vit B 12 may be given for that.

Well regarding oral forms of vit B 12 being given, oral tablets of vit B12 supplements like methylcobalamine are available. You can consult a pharmacist and get any oral preparation from him.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your daughter is doing or if you have any additional doubts.
