Not feelin well

i am 18 years old and recently my doctor told me i have high blood pressure. he put me on atenolol and had me get an echocardiogram. after the test he told me my heart was beating to hard and didnt relax properly. what does this mean and should i be extremely concerned?

also, i have been getting headaches about everyday and i consistently feel light headed each day and just feel not like myself.  its hard for me to concentrate in school and its really hard for me to remember things now and i have never had problems with this before. what is going on?

thank you for your response.....i just wasnt sure what he was talking about when he told me that and i was a little worried considering im only 18. one thing that i was wondering was in the second part of my post and that was why i was having problems with my memory and some other things that have to do with my brain.

also, are you a doctor or nurse or anything of that sort? im not challenging your knowledge by any means i was just curious

Hello,

The doctor meant to say that you are having tachycardia. Taken when at rest, a normal adult's pulse can be anywhere from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Anything over 100 is technically defined as a tachycardia. Tachycardia at rest can be found in anxiety, stress, nervousness, panic attack, after a large meal, exercise, high or low BP, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, heart disorders, hyperthyroidism and anemia.

Other possibilities for your symptoms are neuropathic postural tachycardial syndrome(also called hyperadrenergic orthostatic tachycardia, or postural orthostatic tachycardia (POTS), dehydration, hypoglycemia, anemia, eating disorders and cardiac and neurological causes.

Pls discuss these options with your doctor so that the cause of your tachycardia can be found out.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case of any additional queries and how you are doing.
