MS?

I am a 41 yr old female. For the last six months I have had an almost continual headache accompanied by tingles and pins and needles in my scalp. The pins and needles spread to my shoulder and arms, and in parts of my legs. I also have a numb and tingly face. Recently I have also had memory and cognitive concerns, including an inability to 'think of the right word'. I also have bouts of dizziness. I recently had a CAT scan, and no cause of the tingling or headaches could be found. My doctor is sending me to a neurologist to have an MRI, to exclude "primary demyelination". My doctor hasn't mentioned MS, although has talked about 'damage' to nerve ends, however my own research seems to point in that direction. Any thoughts?

MS?

You already had the CT that showed no brain lesions.

MS would have shown up.

you need to look elsewhere.

My 11 yr old son had a lot of the same symptoms way before we got closer to an answer.  We haven't still got a solid answer but MRIs show lesions, white matter brain changes on brain and lesions on spine.  His spinal tap was also positive for oligo bands.  My son had many of your same symptoms but then it got really bad and he was treated.  Now he is better but gets "episodes" often.  He does better when he well rested, keeps himself well hydrated, stays away from diet drinks, frequent rest/naps and low stress.  I know it takes a long time for diagnosis and there are many forms of MS (many more mild than others).  A neurologist that only specializes in MS will review all testing in June (made the appt in January).  Probably will want more of an expert opinion when all MRIs are done.  My son has had 15-16 of them.  The good news is there is medication that helps once you are diagnosed and from talking with many people it has helped them so much.  I wish you the best.

I'm a curriculum manager in education - busy but not strenuous. The most strenuous thing I do is running and cycling - beginner triathlete and have completed a couple of half marathons. The fatigue is making it more of a challenge to keep that up, but I find it keeps my stress levels down. I know I need to be patient and wait for the MRI!
Have you found relief from your symptoms?
