Could spinal block have caused my pain?

Hi my name is Misty and I just had a baby 4 weeks ago and 6 days after the baby was born I had to have surgery on a kidney stone and a stint put in my kidney as well which was removed a week later. I had my baby by a scheduled C-section and had a spinal block done. I also had a spinal block for the kidney stone surgery. Ever since I had the spinal block done for the C-section I have been having some very bad pain in my lower left back that goes down into the upper part of my left leg and kinda in my buttocks. It's a very sharp pain. I'm not able to sit, walk, stand still, bend over or even lay down comfortably anymore. The pain gets so bad that I almost hit the floor. My question is: Could the spinal block have caused this pain and will it go away without me doing anything for it and if not what kind of doctor would I go to for this pain?

Hello,

This type of pain after surgery is possible either as a result of anaesthesia or as a result of injury to the nerves during surgery. The dorsal nerve roots or adjacent meninges in the lumbo sacral area may become irritated or injured by exposure to relatively undiluted anaesthesia resulting in back pain and pain in legs.

Other causes may include injury to the nerves(lumbosacral) or their compression during surgery and arachnoiditis. It is a pain disorder caused by the inflammation of the arachnoid, one of the membranes that surround and protect the nerves of the spinal cord.

For confirming the cause of pain after spinal anesthesia and surgery, pls get a CT or MRI spinal cord done. You may also need tests like nerve conduction velocity and electromyography. For this pls consult a neurologist.

Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
