I'm sorry Magnesium didn't work for you.   Magnesium doesn't work on my Fibromyalgia either.  Just on "regular" aches and pains.  When I get a Fibro flare up I take Naproxen.

I have been taking magnesium tablets for months, but have felt no benefit at all, haven't felt any relief from muscle aches and pains either.

Yes magnesium is good for muscle cramps/pain/spasms too. I take about 425mg of SloMag a day (regular magnesium gives me diarrhea). If you take Epson salt baths be sure to hydrate yourself.

A lack of Magnesium or Potassium causes cramps, weakness, spasms, zaps, pain, etc.  You can absorb magnesium by taking a bath to which 1 cup of Epsom salts has been added.  If you feel better after that, then find out how much Magnesium you need.  See you doctor

I agree it could be a type of restless leg syndrome . But I wonder if you have had your potassium checked? Also, do you have any other symptoms than this? Can you trace what the cause might be? For example are you doing more or less activity than usual, not drinking enough water etc.? I don' think you have this but have you been tested for MS? You really would have a lot of other symptoms but it couldn't hurt to see a neurologist and rule it out. I had it ruled out on me. I had back pain and my reflexes were a bit too fast so they told me to rule out MS. I went to the neurologist and she gave me an exam where they check your reflexes and can you touch your finger to the nose and so forth and she said no neurological problems and negative for MS but it was good to rule it out. It made me feel better. I still have back pain in the muscle for 4 years and no one really knows what it is. MRI normal etc. Anyway, it is good to get checked out if you can afford it. I really don't think you have the symptoms but I was just saying the neurologist could check and see if your problem had any neurological end. Or, also a Rheumatologist looks at joints and I think muscles and they may be able to do some tests too. I would start with talking to a doctor who will actually listen to you.

With the leg problem that you feel like stretching them, it sounds like it could be "restless leg syndrome".  This is usually treated with an antidepressant called amitriptyline.

With your arms aching too, you may have some form of arthritis.
Unfortunately as we get older, us unfortunate ones, start to feel aches and pains.

Ask your doctor about the restless leg syndrome.  Pain relief and anti-inflammatories may help.

You could have a warm bath with a relaxing muscle soak before you go to bed.

Best wishes.
