Small hard lump underneath the skin left of the sternum below the rib cage

Hi, for about a month now, I've felt this small lump, about the size of a pea, hard, floating right underneath the skin left of the sternum adjacent to the rib cage. No particular sensation if untouched, but when I touch it, the spot feels not exactly painful, but more like soreness.

I'll get it checked out in my next annual physical, but before that, I thought someone from this forum may have some idea on what it is.

Should I be concerned?

I thought a staph infection usually results in boils and pus. This small lump is just underneath the skin. The skin on top is looking completely normal. I just pressed on it really hard, it does induce a sharp pain. Is it a lymph node?
