Hi Corey.
Have you had an ANCA bloodtest?
I ask this as i came across a man with purpura on his legs, who also had breathing problems, tightness in chest, etc.
He struggled for a long time, and when all come out he had a form of vasculitis,
He did find out with the ANCA bloodtest, maybe you could ask your doctor to rule this out for you with a simple blood test.
The purpura on his legs was due to the vasculitis too, his chest problems, and the purple spots were all connected, to the form of vasculitis he had.
I have also come across this with blood disorders also, have you been tested for antiphospolipid syndrome, as i have this condition, and i get the purple spots on my legs and arms.
This is a simple blood test also for anticardiolipin, and also lupus anticoagulant.
It can also be seen in thrombocytopenia, which is the blood platelets being low. This also could be found with a simple blood test also.
I have APS which is the antiphospolipid syndrome, and i also get chest problems, like it affects my lungs, i also get the purple rash, along with flushing. etc etc.
We could do with trying to work out whats wrong first, and then finding a good consultant who deals with the condition.
Would your doctor run the blood tests for you first, and then if there is a problem with the results, then she could refer to a specialist who deals with the condition found.
I cant see why she wont run the tests, especially if she has seen the purple rashes on your legs, i would give her a try, and push a bit, dont be fobbed off.
Remember this your health and your life, you are dealing with, stay firm in a nice manner, but dont take no for an answer, and if she wont do them , then like doctornee said find another doctor who will.
Take care
Please keep me posted
Nicola
Thanks you two. I guess I will keep on searching. Do you have any idea on what kind of specialist this kind of thing would categorize under? I mainly worry about the Petechiae and constant labored breathing, because It makes me wonder if I am not getting enough oxygen to my body, which may eventually cause permanent damage over time. But doctor said I'm not weezing, so there can't be much wrong, and as for the Petechiae I happend to ask about it before getting dismissed, and she just shrugged it off, and said sometimes it just happens, and because it was not extremely present at the time of the visit( although it was still there, all down my leg just not as red/purple as usual, It comes and goes weekly) She said I would need to take pictures of it when it looked bad, or come in when it looked worse.. I don't really understand that much.. Because regardless of how "Bad" it looks.. Its still there, which means something.. Its not like I am lying. So yea. I guess I will try to find someone else, so if you have any idea on what kind of specialist this kind of thing would categorize under It may be helpful to me finding the correct person to contact. Thanks again so much. I know you don't need to bother with my problems, and I appreciate it.
Corey.
Please dont give up, listen to doctornee, she gives great advice , and has always helped me out when i need advice.
You carry on looking for a doctor what will listen, and not fob you off.
If you are not happy, with the doctor you move on, and i know it can be hard, because when you are poorly and struggling, its twice as hard, your energy get zapped a lot quicker, and you just want to curl up.
Never give up, i have been in your shoes, many times, with doctors who werent interested in my symptoms, or didnt even physically go over my problems, and i was fobbed off left right and centre.
Your best option is to find out what kind off specialist you need for your problems, then do some research, to find out who is the best in that field.
I was once given anti-depressants, and told i had depression.
When really i had a 4cm mass over my central trachea, causing me the breathing, and swallowing problems i was suffering.
You know your own body best, so never give up searching.
Knowledge is power.
Sorry if ive gone on, it just makea me mad, when i listen to stories like this, and your not getting any help
I still say you need some antibody testing, like the ANA, ANCA, and ACL, anti-DNA etc.
The purple spots you are describing is purpura i think, and can be seen in vascular, and blood, conditions, which are usually of auto-immune origin.
I am here if ever you want a vent, or you can private message me if you want.
Take care for now, remember keep fighting, and dont give up.
Nicola.
So went to my follow up visit.. in the first minute she blames Depression, and ignores everything else I have to say... Typical.
I don't really know what to do anymore. I give up
Hello again, So I ended up going in and getting checked out. I got my thyroid levels checked, and my liver, and white blood cells. Maybe one other thing, but I can't quite remember at the moment. Also chest x-rays. Apparently everything came back in normal ranges. They told me that its "Dyspnea" and that I need to go to a different place to get it further investigated because they had no idea what It could be thats causing me to feel this way. My blood pressure was high I think, 148/85 or something. I happen to notice the nurse write it down, but she didn't say anything about it. Neither did the docter, is this an issue?
So anyway I guess I will set up an appointment somewhere else, and see if I can get more tests done. Thanks again.
Thanks you two. I really appreciate your feedback, as it gives me a place to start. I will have to try to find a docter that is willing to do these tests, and try to be more aggressive about what kind of help im looking for. I'm not really good at that part, I end up walking into a walk in clinic, and 20 minutes later I notice myself outside in my car wondering what just happend.. In the sense that, somehow this docter just managed to swindle me out of his office without me knowing anything. Then im back to sqaure one again. This has happen many times. Ahhhh, lol. A bit frusterating, but maybe its my own fault. Thanks again, and when I find out more about what is going on, I will post back, I really appreciate your comments, Thank you so much for taking the time to give me some advice.
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
There are three things which should be ruled out: hyperthyroidism (by doing T3, T4 and TSH), infection with helicobacter pylori and petechiae. You will be surprised to know the bacteria responsible for GERD, heart burn, acid reflux etc called Helicobacter Pylori or H pylori can cause hives. Antibiotics given to clear up the bacteria also take care of the hives. Diagnosis is generally by carbon urea breath test. Treatment is control of acidity, lifestyle changes and antibiotics. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system).
Petechiae are pinpoint-sized red dots under the surface of the skin.
The commonest cause of petechiae is a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia).
They can also result from autoimmune disorders, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, bone marrow disorders such as leukemia, inflammation of the veins, as a side effect of certain medications including the vaccine itself, viral infections, such as EBV and septicemia or infection in blood. A complete blood count, urine examination and a blood culture may be required to reach a diagnosis.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Hi Corey.
It sounds like you are having a real bad time. I know were you are coming from, i have been in the same boat as you, were i used to self treat myself, as i didnt want another doctors visit, which was short lived, and no treatment.
Firstly, have you had your thyroid levels checked?
Have you had an IGE bloodtest done for allergies?
Also have you had any auto-immune antibody blood tests done? like ANA, antiDNA, SSB, anticardiolipin antibodies , etc?
I would have some bloods done to try to rule out what it isnt, also have a complete blood count done also, and check your platelet levels
The point is once you get labelled with anxiety, then the doctors just seem to put everything down to anxiety, and dont tend to look for a cause.
When half the time the anxiety is actually caused by the underlying illness.
Remember knowledge is power.
Im wishing you well, if i can help you anymore just give me a shout.
I hope you get some more replies, and people help out on this for you,
Like i say two heads are better than one.
Best wishes
Nicola
