There is no reason for you to suspect an aortic dissection. Let's slow down a bit. An x-ray will be fairly meaningless.
The cardiac enzyme test measures the levels of creatine phosphokinase and the protein troponin in the blood. These are substances generally released when there is some damage to the heart muscle. The test is fairly definitive.
Damage takes place when the tissue becomes ischemic. That is to say when there is not enough oxygen being supplied to the muscle. This is often caused by a spasm in the blood vessels leading to the heart.
An EKG may not necessarily show abnormalities at the time the EKG is taken. If there is damage to the heart and death of tissue, generally the ST segment is depressed. They will undoubtedly prescribe the tests suggested by doctornee.
The important thing is to prevent the death of any more tissue. In addition to diminishing contractility the dead tissue will interfere with the conduction of electrical impulses from the atria.
As doctornee suggested, you need a thorough cardiac evaluation. You are going to have to get both your blood pressure and diabetes under tight control. No if's and's or buts. You are lucky. You have had a warning.
Your physician will probably prescribe you with sublingual nitroglycerine to take if you have more symptoms. These pills tend to absorb water and you need a new bottle every ninety days. When you get the small bottle open it. The caps are often sealed very tightly and if you are in distress you might not be able to open the bottle. Sit down or lie down when you place the pill under your tongue.
If you experience more symptoms it is critical that you immediately reduce the oxygen demand to allow everything to go to the heart. Call an ambulance. DO NOT WALK TO THE CAR. Lie down and rest and call 911.
DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL 911!
Don't panic. It isn't the end of the line. Many people who have episodes such as you have had live for decades.
That being said, the incident was life-threatening and you have to resolve to pay attention to every detail of your physician's instructions!
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
With this medical history it is important to go for angiography, 24 hours holter monitoring and ECHO of the heart. Please take this up with a cardiologist immediately.
Also consult a gynecologist. In your case it can also be a symptom of menopause. Hence get complete hormone panel with FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone and prolactin.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
According to the history that you've stated, I would suggest you to undergo an Angiogram of your large vessels namely the Aorta. You might be suffering from a condition known as Aortic Dissection. I would advise you to get started with a X-Ray for a preliminary diagnosis. Please consult your Physician for further details. I will be waiting for the update on your condition.
