Dissolvable stitches not entirely dissolved

I was not really sure where to post this but as it relates to my circumcision I thought perhaps I should ask it here.  I had a circumcision 6 weeks ago, the wound has healed and I did not have any problems with infection but I am left with 2 problems.

I still have some swelling just behind the glands, it is sort of a ring of swelling, with one side being more swollen then the other.  It is not painful but it is fairly hard and feels weird.

The second problem is that I have a few bits of stitches left over.  They used dissolvable stitches but some parts, mainly 2 knots but also a short length that sticks out elsewhere, refuse to dissolve.  I saw a GP at my university health clinic and she felt while it was taking a little long nothing was really a problem, and I talked to my surgeon on the phone and he said it was alright and nothing to worry about.  I have a follow up exam in a week or so and I guess I will know more then.

But these things are still unpleasant, the knots often dig into me.  Is there anything I can do to promote dissolving of these?  Could the swelling be related?

Thanks.  I do hope it reduces itself a bit, it is not the best thing in the world to have.  As for the stitches, I was worried about that.  I really have no urge to get them removed like that, they are in a sensitive area you know.

Oh well, once thet are out I should feel a lot better, they are not pleasant.

I have recently had circumcision and it has healed up perfectly except for having 2 lumps which are black stitches and they havent even started dissolving yet. What did you end up having to do? Thanks

Hi, the ring that you talk about is most likely scar tissue as a result of the circumcision. It might become less over time. As for the stiches they might have to be removed during your follow up appointment. I have had numerous surgeries and some stiches take longer to disovle then others.

All the best,

Ron
