Fluctuations in PSA

I am 76 year old man diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. PSA was 14. CT  showed mass in bladder which was prostate cancer which had spread. Gleason was 8. Bone scan showed small focal met in back, rib and pelvis. TURP removed mass in bladder. Started with Firmagon and then Eligard every 4 months. First PSA after starting was 2.8. 4 months later ( 2 weeks after shot) it was 2.6. Last PSA 2 weeks before next 4 months shot it was up to 4. My primary Dr said its normal for some for PSA to be lower right after shot and higher right before next shot and that everyone is different. To say the least I am concerned and wondered if anyone else has had this same issue and what professionals on here might add.

Dang cancer!  I'm sorry to hear you are battling this. I do think your doctor is telling you what is accurate here. It's understandable that you are feeling so nervous. I would too. What your doctor says makes sense as the psa could fluctuate but that seems like a lot. Would your doctor perform another psa test on you post meds to see? I think your 'next' reading will be very telling. Please update that.

I had another PSA done 3 days after the Eligard shot. I did a self pay through Quest diagnostic and it came back at 2.5 which is where it has been for the last year. Two different labs with two different results ! Scheduling another PSA as well as a PSMA  for January to double check what's going on ! Will update when I know as whenever we learn something new, its important to pass it on to others going through much the same !
Definitely appreciate that. Come back and let us know. I"m glad to hear your psa went down right away.
