Prostatitis?

Hi all. Looking for some feed back. I am a healthy 40 year old male. A few weeks ago while at the doctor I had told him I mwas having some symptoms that led me to believe I had a UTI. Burning after unrination and some burning pain in the pubic area (internal). He had me do a urine test and sent it out to the lab. The reults came back negative. The problem persisted and while on vacation last week I had to call in and see if I could get some anti-biotics cause from what I read on the web maybe I had Prostatitis. What happened was the burning was getting more frequent and lasting longer during the day and I started having a dull ache in my testicles. They are not sore or any king of mass or lumps. That was the only symptoms. No problems going, discoloration, no frequent urge to go etc. Anyways he called in a perscription for 500 mg of Cipro for twice a day for 10 days. I have taken the pill for 5 days now and haven't had any real improvement. I could say the burning after unrinating is less frequent but my testicles have been aching all day for the last 10 days. The only thing that helps is Advil and I don't want to continue popping them everyday. So my question is does it take this long for the Cipro to work. What happens if after 10 days nothing has improved. I hagve heard horror stories about Prostatitis so I am concerned. Thanks

Well I went back to the doctor before the Urologist and got Zithromax and had a urine culture and a PSA test. Urine was checked microscopically and all clear and my PSA was like a 1.3 which is really good. Like tnman2 said it just gets better. After time it got slowly better and just eventually went away. I get a little irratation every now and then but it only last a little while. Not sure if the antibiotics worked or not but it cleared up.

Just read your posts from this past Aug/Sept. and was wondering if your problem cleared up and if so what was your treatment. I too have had VERY similar symptoms for the past 3 months. Have been on antibiotics for protatitus for just about 2 weeks and not much improvement. Have very bad left testicle pain and burning feeling on left side of scrotum and penis. No burning when urinateing but just sitting or standing the left testicle hurts and that area burns. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. Just reading this makes me feel better. I have had no problems when I ejaculate or sexually. I have been married for a long time so no unprotected sex. Yesterday I felt a lot better. The pain was milder and my testicles didn't bother me much. This morning they are bothering me again but the burning is still a little less. My back has been aching some but that could just be a stiff back. The burning always seems to be there after unrinating but during it really isn't uncomfortable. But it can last all day and that could be I guess from going, it burning, and then going again to just continue the cycle. The testicle pain just really bothers me. When I used to get the flu and get the body aches the first thing that always started aching for me was the testicles. Now for this pain to last for such a long time is very dpressing. Thanks again

hey.. i know what you are going thru.. sounds just like me back in 1998... i promise you that it will get better. for unknown reasons, it will get better.. just some information... the testicle pain for epidydimitis is normally on the left side. Motrin or Aleve will usually take care of the pain... now I will tell you that pain in the left testicle can be what is called a "referred pain" from the prostate, SO THIS MAY STILL BE A PROSTATE INFECTION OR INFLAMMATION, YOUR ER DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THAT and your prostate should have been checked.. but its no big deal...  drink lots of water...if you can and arestill able, still have regular ejaculations.. it will keep your prostate from becoming congested. have sex or maaturbate.. but have regular ejaculations.. also your sex or masturbation should last no longer than 20 minutes. Anyway...also, does it burn deep inside when you ejaculate? burning on ejaculation is classic symptom for prostatitis.. have you had any recent unprotected sex? if so, always wear a condom from here on out?
I really and truly don't think you have anything really serious going on. probably some sorts of inflammation... try taking your Motrin or Aleve, but only after eating something so it doesnt upset your stomach.if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.. i will be glad to help. best wishes... tnman2

Thanks for the feedback. I actually had to go to the ER last night at 3 AM because the burning was soo bad I could not sleep for the last 2 days. Told the ER doctor my symptoms and the whole story. He diagnosed me with Epiditimus(sp). He did a urine test which was clean and also a swab of my urethra to make sure I didn't have any infections. Added 4 more days of Cipro to my script and told me to follow-up with urologist if it didn't clear up. He said it was not necessary to check my prostate because he didn't think that was the problem. Called the Urologist office and can't get in until Oct 27th! So I hope the additional few days of Cipro clear this up because I don't honestly know how guys can tolerate this dull ache and burning all the time.

go see your doctor and get a thorough workup.. have him do a prostate exam and have him milk the prostate and look at the fluid under a microscope. i also dealt with this about 10 years ago... when I took Cipro, it made mine worse.. it made my prostate swell up about 45 minutes after taking the pill. Anyway, prostatitis ,  if that is what you have is really no big deal... you will recover. dont read and obsess over everything you read online. a lot of it is bullcrap. just watch your caffeine intake, no alcohol either. eat a healthy diet.. if you get an all clear from your doctor and they don't know what else to do and leave you hanging... and if all of your tests prove it is only prostatitis.. then go to google and type in "the broccoli treatment" it worked for me.. it is an all natural approach to genito urinary pains and conditions. but again, I urge you to seek the advice from a medical doctorprofessional first to see what your diagnosis is.
