Indwelling suprapubic catheter

My son Ryan is 11 and according to my research and according to the MRI of his brain and spinal cord I believe my son has a neurogenic bladder, including this he has 19 medical diagnoses.  A year ago we did the mitrofanoff, then in November we had to do a complete revision and in March yet another one.  Now a year later there is so much scar tissue and him getting an irritated bladder from all the UTI's in the past year the opening closed up.  The urologist said we could either start doing catheters through his penis (I then laughed at him, Ryan is nonverbal and has Down syndrome), yet another revision or a indwelling suprapubic catheter but this one has a little door/valve on it and it sits flush with the skin, the good thing he won't be able to play with it like he did with the mitrofanoff, the bad is all new supplies (don't have any out of costs due to insurance paying for them), it has to be redone every 3 months as either a doctors appointment (I highly doubt that will work) or a short stay procedure.

I'm going Thursday down to the University of Minnesota for a 2nd opinion and if I really need to a 3rd opinion set up for the Mayo clinic (which will be a nice 2 hour long drive - so not looking forward to that).
