Is it possible that recurrent UTIs are caused by a dormant herpes virus?

I have never knowingly been exposed to herpes and Urinalysis always shows e-coli as the culprit.  I am 62 and have been married for 40+ years. Neither of us has EVER had herpes symptoms. I was highly insulted when a nurse practitioner suggested that I get tested. This was a walk-in clinic and I went ONLY because I was traveling and need confirmation of the UTI and a prescription for antibiotics.
