Redness on penis tip

Hello,

I've been dealing with some puzzling conditions for over two months now. I had unprotected sex with a girl two months ago, and I could barely even keep my member up when I was doing it (hence no condom). Since this, I've noticed that my penis has had 1 red bump inside my pee hole, and my penis head gets red sometimes and is sensitive to touch. It doesn't hurt when I pee, masturbate, or anything else really, but it is sensitive when it brushes against my underwear sometimes.

First, I went to the health department because I didn't want anyone to know what I was going through in my family. They told me that it didn't look like herpes, and that the human body is a weird thing and I shouldn't worry about it. Just wait and see if it goes away.

Well, it didn't. After a few more weeks, I went to see my mom's doctor and he tested me for STDs. He told me that my blood work came back positive for HSV, then prescribed me Valtrex, I took the entire prescription, but it did nothing for my downstairs region. I went to the dermatologist the other day because I have been breaking out due to the humidity (I hope) in this city because I'm not used to this town, explained the situation to her, and she said that a blood test only tells you that you've been exposed to the virus, which pretty much everyone has been if you get cold sores. This has me remaining hopeful that it isn't HSV-2, because I've been having this issue for several months, the valtrex prescription didn't work, it was a blood test that distinguished this diagnosis, and I have had cold sores before. I know I can't write off that possibility, but it has me wondering if the problem is something else.

When I was younger, I had several surgeries on my penis because I was unable to urinate straight. My doctor told me that if the Valtrex doesn't clear it up, then maybe it's scar tissue from when I was young and I should see a urologist. I have an appointment to do this on Thursday, but the uncertainty is killing me because this has consumed my entire Summer. I was hoping I could seek a little guidance/rationale/opinion on the topic before I walk in there on Thursday.

Could I have aggravated something when I had unprotected sex half cocked? Could it still be herpes? Does it sound like a fungus infection or something? I had recently been dumped by this girl I loved for 3 1/2 years before I hooked up with this other girl, so I assumed that was why I couldn't maintain my erection, but could that be a symptom for something else that connects to what I'm going through?

Anything helps at this point. If it is HSV-2, then how on earth has it lasted for so long? I can't find anything that says outbreaks last several months even when you're taking Valtrex.

Thank you very much for responding!

I knew that it would be a long shot to diagnose anything without proper evaluation yourself, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. I have an appointment to visit my local urologist tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possible causes that may need to be considered include GU infections (STD or non STD), inflammations,  warts, cysts, trauma etc. Though I would agree with the dermatologist on the herpes tests, without an evaluation it would be difficult to say if the lesion could be herpitic. Unfortunately without a definite diagnosis at hand it is difficult to suggest a management plan. I would suggest getting this evaluated in detail by a urologist or a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope the information is helpful.

Take care!
