Penoscrotal webbing surgery complication

Hello,

I'm healthy male in my mid 20's. I had a surgery to correct penoscrotal webbing 3 weeks ago. After a week the incision on my scrotum opened up and it continues to open up. My doctor did not remove any tissue during the original surgery but instead re-arranged the scrotal webbing and stitched it together with a Y closure.

I am in no pain and I'm on antibiotics. I am desperate for a permanent solution. Last week my doctor restitched the opening but the next day it opened up again. I have a blood clot it seems in the area so it looks very disgusting. No infection as far as I can tell. I do leak blood from the area all day and I'm having to changed the non-stick pads 4-5 times a day. My erection is fine. The doctor suggested we either restitch again with nondissolvable stitches or just leave it be and monitor it as it heals.

He's advised me to use no ointment anymore, keep wearing my jockstrap and shower daily. It is disgusting to see the inside of my scrotum and has caused my a lot of psychological stress. I do have an appointment with a couple
urologist soon but I'm wondering what everyone else thinks?

I just took this picture. Yes very gross and again, no pain at all even with a touch the area with my finger.

I read that what I may be experiencing is wound dehiscence which explains why the stitches kept re-opening. I won't let this doctor operate on me again or give him a penny. He never told me this could be a complication and been quite frankly, cold and unsympathetic. I chose him because of his excellent reviews all over the web and of his confident attitude at the first consultation.

How are you doing now? Do you mind me asking who the first doctor was? Or at the least, what city he was in? I'm thinking about having the procedure done myself.

Hi Caryopteris,

Thanks for the reply. You're sympathy is much appreciated. I actually just saw another urologist and he agreed to not to do anything about it. First because it could cause an abscess to re-stitch but also because I have no infection. He suggested using some gauze with saline to help with the healing and continue seeing my original urologist. He also said it would take around 2 months for the wound to fully close.

I also actually spoke with a top urologist/plastic surgeon through e-mail and he agreed to let it heal naturally and in 6 months if the are didn't look normal than a revision could be done.

Thankfully, my would seems to be leaking blood less and closing in on itself. I think you are correct that my doctor probably didn't do anything wrong however his technique was uncommon and I wonder how much that played a role. Still, I'm optimistic now. As long as my penis continues to function fine and the wound continues to heal without complication than I know everything will be great one day soon. Just frustrating I have to wait months before it's healed up.

I am sorry you are going through this.  The thing is that surgery can have unpredictable complications.  They can't predict who will have serious complications, but they can happen.  Have you considered seeing another surgeon for a second opinion on healing this wound?  Ideally you would see another excellent urologist, but one who is more compassionate and a better communicator to help you through this healing process.

I had a friend who had plastic surgery to remove excess skin, and the stupid surgeon measured one arm to remove the skin and then used the same measurement for the other arm.  He could not close this 7-inch long incision for 3 months!  In that case she could have sued, but she didn't.  I'm not sure why.  But I do not think your surgeon necessarily did anything wrong.  You may have just had a lot of swelling and the swelling caused the problem.  But now the problem is this guy isn't a good communicator and you need help and reassurance.
