Urge To Urinate

Hi,

For the last two weeks I have been suffering with a constant urge to urinate.  The urge manifests itself at the tip of my penis and is sometimes more acute than others.  I believe this may be connected to other symptom that affected me earlier in life.

When I was in my early twenties I was one day lifting some heavy weights when I felt a sudden pain in my groin area at the base of my penis.  The pain went away after three or four days but a couple of week later I noticed some penal atrophy and wasting.  This continued for around a year or so but eventually it seemed to settled down.  I however was left with a distinct curve in my penis and some reduction in circumference.  On Urologist did diagnose me with Peyronie's disease however I do not have any hard places of skin so I am not so sure about this diagnosis.  I did not have any long term problems and could function normally so I forgot about the problem.

Unfortunately around 6 months ago I started to have pains in the groin area again.  Also a numbness in my right testicle and right leg.  I am now 37.  This pain came and went so I did not immediately go see the doctor.  However I have now noticed that there seems to have been an increased wasting of the penis.  It feels very light when not erect and also often very cold as if there is not a properly blood circulation.  Also as stated above I have started to get this very unpleasant urge to urinate which really doesn’t stop.

I am going to see a urologist on Monday and I have had a full STD check and have been checked for any urinary infection all came back as negative.  I just wondered what your thoughts were.

Many thanks.

Hi,
How are you? Were you able to see your urologist? What other diagnostic tests were done? It is good that the STD and urine tests were normal at that time.  Aside from a urinary tract infection, urinary urgency may be associated with other medial conditions such as diabetes and prostate problems. Medication side effect, tumor and other brain or nervous system diseases may also be associated. If the symptoms persist, further evaluation and diagnostic tests may be done to determine the underlying cause. Imaging studies as well as blood tests may also be indicated. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hi Dr Santos and thanks for getting back to me.  Well to be honest I’m still suffering with the constant urge to urinate.  Which after a month and a half now is really starting to become difficult to deal with.  I’m trying to keep busy which helps to take my mind off it but I’m really worried this will never go away.
As I said I had a full STD test done and it came back negative.  However I have had another done last week just to make sure nothing was missed and I’ll get the results in a few days.  Aside from that my urologist suggested that I have an ultrasound of my kidneys bladder, testicles and penis.  All came back as normal except for my bladder.  I was asked to drink two pints of water at least an hour before the test and then they ultrasound your bladder before and after you have urinated to see how well you empty it.  It seems that mine was still 65% full even after I had urinated.  To be honest I have always need to go to the bathroom more often than most of my friends but it was never really a problem, I just went a little more often than most people but I wasn’t left with an urge to still go like I am today.  My Urologist suggested that I try Tamsulosin to help but I have been using this for a week now and nothing seems to have changed.  I’m not sure what is the next step now?  I know there are other drugs that instead of relaxing the muscles surrounding the prostate gland like Tamsulosin actually toughen them up so maybe I need to try them next.  But if they don’t work, then what?  I’m beginning to lose hope that anyone can help.

Thanks.
