There’s some evidence that TriMix or similar injections to produce erections may help restore erectile function for men who’ve had prostate surgery. Even w/ modern nerve-sparing techniques, the nerves that are responsible for erections are traumatized during the procedure because they need to be very delicately ‘peeled’ away from the prostate before it’s removed, and it can take several months or even up to 2 yrs or longer for the nerves to ‘wake up’ again. Until that happens, erections are usually not possible & the 2 penile chambers (corpus cavernosa) that fill with blood do not get adequate blood flow & the tissue can become almost like scar tissue that won’t expand properly even once the nerves come back to life. Also, the ED meds like Viagra still need nerve function to generate the Nitric Oxide that enables erections, so they often don’t work well for guys w/ nerve damage from prostate surgery. This is where TriMix, BiMix, Edex, etc. help - the injections into the corpus cavernosa produce erections even if nerve function is not there, and filling these chambers w/ blood enables them to remain ‘pliable’ so they will retain normal function once nerve function is restored. You would need your Dr (preferably a Urologist) to determine the reason for ED & if he or she thinks TriMix is appropriate you’ll get a Rx. Usually they want to try one of the oral ED meds (Viagra, etc.) first, then if that doesn’t work, the next step would be injections. You have to go to a special compounding pharmacy to have this mix made up for you, can’t get it at Walgreens, WalMart, etc. There are supposedly some on-line pharmacies that will do this, might be able to save a few $$, most insurance doesn’t cover the cost, I think. A 3-month supply might cast around $120, which is not that bad, cheaper than Viagra over the same period...
