Weird Smelling Urine

For about a week I have had a cold (or atleast I think its a cold) I've been coughing up mucus & phlem and had a fever and other symptoms.  The only one that is really weird is that fact that when I go to the bathroom my urine smells lik cough medicine.  I haven't been taking any cough medicine at all and all I've taken is some mucinex and I had one cough drop yesterday but I've had this smell for the past couple of days.  I dont know why its been doing it.  Its not an unpleasant scent...just that it really does smell like cherry flavored cough medicine.  Someone please help...What could it be?!?

Guaifenessin, a common expectorant for those with coughs ,  both available as a syrup or a tablet will cause your urine to smell like caugh medicine. .

Its a little bit of both.  Its more strong then sweet though but it depends on how long its been since I last went to the bathroom.  The longer I havn't gone the sweeter it smells.  I don't have a personal history of diabetes but I think I will schedule an appointment with my doctor.  Or atleast give him a call.  Thank you very much.

How are you? Can you elaborate  on the cherry flavored odor? Is it sweet smelling or smells like maple syrup? Do you have personal history of diabetes?Urine odor is related to the volume and concentration of chemicals excreted by the kidney. Food, medication and dehydration can affect the odor of urine. Sometimes an unusual urine odor can be associated with an underlying medical condition, If this persists, it would be best to consult your doctor for proper evaluation and management.
