what could cause episodes of frequent urination?

Hi I'm a 31 year old male. That has been suffering from episodes of frequent urination. I had a UTI about two years ago that was treated with anti-biotics. But since then I have been hit with episodes of frequent urination. I've been tested for every kind of STD, nothing has come up in my urine samples, and I've had my prostate examined a dozen times, and every doctor tells me its fine.

In the last several months I have had episodes of frequent urination. I'll be fine for weeks then I'll be hit one day where I have to use the bathroom once every hour, then every half hour, and when its severe every ten minutes. while its happening my urine is almost completely clear. It looks like it just straight water. this last for several hours to a day.  Then it suddenly just stops, and my urine goes back to being yellow. then I'll be fine for weeks even months. Then from no where it will start again.

This totally puzzled my doctor. I thought it might have been because of caffine, so I gave up tea, and it happen anyway. I tried switching around my diet but can't link it to anything I'm eating. all the test I've gotten so far say I'm fine. I went to a urologist, and he check hormes, my blood, and urine, and prostate. All the tests came back fine.

I use to get nucturia if I drank coffee, or tea before bed. I stopped doing this and I haven't had it since. Just these episodes of frequent urination. What could be causing this?

Sometimes these issues can be caused by pelvic floor dysfunction -- a physical therapy / body alignment issue. Sometimes due to tension, sometimes weakness in certain muscles, sometimes body alignment. Most of us wear shoes that change the angles of our feet which changes the whole musculature of our legs and pelvis and changes their alignment. And then we spent a lot of time sitting which causes a whole host of issues too. Before jumping to diagnoses of unusual issues, I'd look into this kind of thing because it's soooooo common. Good luck!

I am a female yet experience the same exact problem as you.
Have you determined what the problem is yet?
I'm curious because I'm having my first test, urodynamic testing, in the next few months.
I am crossing my fingers they figure SOMETHING out because these episodes are limiting what I'm able to do in life (road trips, studying abroad, traveling, going to concerts/events).

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Without examination confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but urge of frequent urination can be due to diabetes mellitus. Other possibilities are glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis (inflammation of the kidneys),urinary tract infection, hypercalcemia hypokalemia(low potassium),hyperthyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, diuretic drugs and benign hyperplasia of the prostate(in males).

In my opinion, investigations like kidney functions, blood sugar levels, ultrasound lower abdomen, intravenous pyelography , prostate specific antigen blood test, thyroid function tests and cystoscopy may be needed to confirm a diagnosis. I sincerely advise you to consult a urologist or nephrologist and get yourself evaluated so that a confirmatory diagnosis can be made.

Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.

It is possible that you have Interstitial Cystitis.  This is often  considered a
women's disease so missed in men.  The ICA has a new brochure out on IC and Men as well.  If you want to pm me I will send you to link to info. that you can read, discuss with your doctor and consider if this might be your problem.

Diagnosing IC does take time and elimination of other issues, which it sounds like you
have already gone through a lot of.

I am not a doctor but an IC sufferer and a support group leader here in Missouri and Arkansas, MOARK IC.

Hope you are feeling better and find help soon!

Hai, I am suresh, male 32. During Jan09, I had urine frequency very often. .I also undergone lot of tests like urine culture/ ultrasound of whole abdomen/ transectal ultrasound/ Cystoscopy.

Still the problem started continuing.

2 months back, I went to SRMC,Porur,Chennai.

I have been taking amitriptyline & zanocin 200 as per doctor advice for the past 8 weeks, now the condition is ok.

If you are in chennai, consult urologist from SRMC, Chennai.

You may have to undergo a test called cystoscopy to identify the symptom in a better way as your problem exists for long time.
