burning on urination...

About six weeks ago, I thought I had contracted chlamydia. I had burning on urination and white discharge in the morning. I got a prescription for doxycycline and took it regularly for ten days. On day two of ten, I went to the clinic and got tested for std's. the results came back two weeks later: negative. but the burning on urination never quite went away (the discharge subsided after a day or two). so, in order to combat a possible UTI, i took cipro twice a day for four days. now, a week after stopping cipro, i still have slight burning on urination and my testicles feel abnormally sensitive.
I assume I have some sort of bacterial infection, but I don't know what's best to combat it. and i don't have health insurance to get it properly diagnosed...

Hi,

The pain and burning on ejaculation could be related to a prostate infection.
Urinalysis in a prostate infection can be negative for any bacteria but this need not mean that the inflammation is abacterial.

If your burning sensation and pain subsided during the ciprofloxacin treatment, it is possible that the organism may be sensitive, at least partially, to the drug. However, the normal prescribed course of ciprofloxacin therapy is 500 mg twice daily for 5 days.

It would be best to contact your prescribing doctor in view of the fact that your symptoms are persisting despite two courses of antibiotics

No, It would not be a good idea to wait with those symptoms for 2 weeks.

thanks for your response.
there is a slight pain on ejaculation. a short-lived burning after the fact.
what does that indicate?
it's going to be about a week or two before i can get a urinalysis. is there any larger danger of waiting that long?
thanks again.

Hi,

It is possible that you still have an infection even though you have tested negative for the STDs.
You could have a UTI, an infection of the prostate, or epidydimitis.
Do you have any pain during ejaculation?

It is possible that the organism causing the infection is resistant or partially sensitive to the antibiotics that you have take.

Please have a urinalysis done to rule out presence of any infective organism and a culture sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is sensitive to.
The pain in the testes could be the result of the inflammation in the prostate or in the epidydimitis.

Meanwhile,
Drink at least 2000 ml of fluids per day.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Increase intake of vitamin C by having citrus or cranberry juices.
Practice safe sex.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress
