Hi.  Kidney cancer found early has a great success rate.  The CT is necessary to determine how large the tumor is and where it is specifically in the kidney.  I recently had my right kidney removed due to Renal Cell Cancer, and am doing well, and living life fine without it.  Our body adapts well to one kidney.  THe key is a healthy diet, and regular follow ups post treatment.   Good luck.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
You have a strong family history of kidney disease and as a shadow has been seen on ultrasound. So it definitely needs further evaluation with a MRI SCAN, kidney function tests and a repeat ultrasound kidneys. If necessary a small kidney biopsy may also be taken and tumor markers tests done.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
