Urinay frequency

Hello, I am a 26 year old female and I have trouble sleeping through the night due to an urge to void. I wake up having to go at least  once during a six hour sleep and up to four times in the six hour period. When I have a day off work I love to sleep in because this is the only time I get more than three hours sleep consecutively. The urinary frequency usually begins in the evening around 6pm or 7pm and lasts until about 7am. I never drink coffee after 4pm try to limit my fluid intake after 8pm. When I am dehydrated I can tell right away because I feel like I have a UTI, the urge to urinate but little is voided. Occasionally (every few days) I experience a dull pain in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen that comes on suddenly and only lasts a few seconds, I am not sure if this is related.  I had my gallbladder removed due to gallstones 8 months ago and 5 months ago I had low iron (112 I believe). My doctor  started me on iron pills for two months and has since left the practice and I am between doctors now and have not received results back from my iron and CBC taken three months ago (I assume it is normal as I have not been contacted). I appreciate any advice concerning the nocturia as well as if I should be concerned - thanks!

Jocelyn,
I wanted to send you a private message with links and information but for some reason it says that I can not.  There are many things that can cause the symptoms that you mention above and a urologist is the one that can best help you.  It is possible that you have chronic cystitis or interstitial cystitis.  There is a questionnaire on the Elmiron website that might help you, since it basically tells you what the likelihood that you might have IC etc.

I you would like some links to bladder sites, send me a pm so I can respond to you.  We can not post links or e-mail addys on the open forum.

Hi,

It is still possible that have a mild UTI. I have had too many to remember. Each time that I had one, I had simmilar symptoms.

A urologist had told me to quit drinking coffee all together. I tried it for about 3 weeks with very little to no difference.

It is best that you consult with a urologist. It is possible that they might want to do a cystoscopy to look inside your bladder to look for anything unusual.

All the best.

Ron
