Behavioral questions after childbirth

My wife's behavoir changed drastically after our first child was born.  She has been extremely angry and overprotective and she has not changed over several years.  We have 3 children now and I don't think she has ever recovered.  I regret now not seeking prof. guidance or opionions early on, but I do wonder if some permanant personality changes can occur other than anyones lives do change drastically when starting a family.

Thank you in advance.

My friend just recently had a baby (6 months ago) and she said that she was experiencing postpartum depression (normal); she went to the doctor and they found a medicine that is helping her.

As for the time frame, she mentioned that her friend was experiencing postpartum depression for 4 years before she went and had it diagnosed. I would go with your wife to a doctor, just to talk about what's going on with her hormones.

A lot of pregnancy and women's health is around the balance of hormones (which shift regularly), and sometimes if that balance is "off," it might cause changes in emotional behavior (like mood swings before menstrual cycles, etc).

So, I would suggest going to a doctor with your wife, and don't let her think that you love her any less. :)
