Bleeding black blood
For the past two months, a week before I started my period, I started bleeding a light brown color. When my period did start, I was bleeding black blood. I've also been having real bad abdomal pain upper and lower even when I'm not having my period. I've been taking Ortho Novum for a year and my period has never been like this. Could you please tell me the reason or what I have done that would cause this to happen?
Black blood sounds a little unusual. Please get to doctor asap. I have not heard of this and have no clue as to what may be happening, but am wishing you the best.
i have exactly the same problem i suffer from severe abdominal pains almost everyday and then when my period comes my blood is black but then by the end is red. i have been to the doctor many times and they say there is nothing wrong with me and that i must put up with the pain until it goes. however i am certain that this is not normal especially with the blood from my periods.if you here anything let me know. but you are not alone many people suffer the same problem and are unsure why. b strong
I have a rare blood disease called acute intermitten porpheria..its a rare blood disease,and as one of the attacks from the disease my periods are black..You may want to have blood work done to see if there is anything abnormal....
I also have the same problem, ab pains every day, frequent urination--including dribbles.

Thought I had colon problems, because bowels were effected, and lower abs were unbearably tender. Sex was uncomfortable, and painful.
Last year, a younger sibling was diagnosed with colon cancer so I got checked out... No problems there... So testing continued. Which lead to my finding out that my Uterus is 3 times the normal size. Was told they did not find any fibroids, and had a uterine biopsy done, and that also came back as normal.
Was then told my options: The Pill (because it was likely hormonal) OR I could have a Hysterectomy (since I am in my 40's and am done having children)
Speaking of which -- I'm sure Most of my problems began around my first pregnancy at the age of 30. Hormonally, I became a wreck, and had back to back pregnancy's and then another one 4 years after the second one. Ending childbirth at almost age 35.
Ever Since, last one was a C-Section: I have had trouble with my cycle. BLACK Foul Smelling turning Red before the end of the cycle. Have been told its old blood, have been told its nothing to worry about, have been told its in my head, have been told its my age.....

Now let me tell you women, I am a skeptic by nature.
So I have experimented over the since I started taking the Progesterone in May. After 2 months of BLISS (May and June) and taking the full amount of Progesterone Cream... I thought I would see if my body had balanced itself enough for me to reduce the amount of cream.
So the next month (July) I skipped every other day..., and I only took half of the recommend amount of cream suggested. To My dismay:
ALL THE SYMPTOMS RETURNED... Every single one. Black Periods, Facial Hair, Wiry Hair, Acne (which to me is like a ball and chain sentence--i hate this one the most)... Spotting, Clotting, extended period.
So I resumed the suggested amount again (I wasnt totally faithful--I missed a few days here and there) (in August/September) But To My DELIGHT: Even though I re-experienced the initial bloating symptoms... I Found RELIEF Again from the Symptoms I have had since my youngest one was about 2 years old. (about 7 years)
Well in my Saga---LAST month I went out of town, and have misplaced my cream---and because of a busy schedule, I have not taken the time to replace it.... so I can only imagine what my period will be like this month... which is due any day now... and yes, I have been extremely GROUCHY, even to the point, some of the adults I know have noticed the difference and made comments this last week, not to mention my children, whom I Home School and live with 24/7... Everyone knows its time to walk on glass...again, and Yes, MY ACNE is back too.... (grr, really hate that).. and In addition to all of the symptoms returning, as if that wasn't enough... I have gained weight, this month, and have been going to the bathroom 20-30 times a day...
So I can tell ya this, I will be at the Health Food Store tomorrow to replace my mis-placed Creme.
I am a believer, and know that it is a Relief... Not totally a Cure for my symptoms... I do know that it is more to it then just one or two hormones, and intend to seek alternative solutions to my hormonal imbalance, as the Normal Medical Procedures, and Doctors have offered me no Solution, or Explaination..... and this one, has made a difference, which leads me to believe that there is a Permanent Solution to an Enlarged Uterus, and Hormone Imbalance, and it is my recommendation to each of you .... Keep Trying, dont settle for its in your head, or there's nothing wrong with you....
Because BLACK BLOOD PERIODS ARE NOT NORMAL---WHATEVER AGE YOU ARE....
It is a symptom that something is out of balance... Listen to your body, and be pushy, get answers...

I started to say that the book tells about our Society being Estrogen Dominant. Since I know that i have experienced over 3/4 of the symptoms of Estrogen Dominance, including all of the above symtoms and more... yeast problems, short term memory problems--which started around the pregnancy's, and everyone told me was just stress.... etc...
Almost all my symptoms at one time or another has been written off as in my head, or stress related... and I am tired of hearing that...
I am convinced from my own experiences, and experimentation with the Progesterone Cream, that I am onto something, that Dr. Lee is On to something... That women are all too often encouraged to get hysterectomy's to relieve their symptoms.
I failed to mention earlier, My Mom had a hysterectomy in her 30's because she had a grapefruit sized non-cancerous tumor removed. At which time they did a hysterectomy on her. After that she experienced symptoms that I can recall---Facial Hair being one of them, I remember the most. Wiry Chin Hairs, and her pulling them... out regularly.
My Mom, eventually was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and had to have a Mysectomy. She then sucummed to the Cancer, as it masticised (spread all over, because they cut the tissue and cancer was introduced into the blood stream) ... This was in the late 70's early 80's... and she has now been gone 20 years.... She is not here for me to question about the other symptoms, but I recall that she had weight gain, and became depressed, and moody---which she never had been before they did the hysterectomy... So I assume it was probably related to Hormonal Imbalance created by the hysterectomy.
My Point is this..... Dont settle for its Normal, or its in your head.... Listen to your body, get answers, get solutions.... press on..... not worth living like I did miserably for 7+ years....

Yep, I’ve got all the symptoms you described C. I have been very regular with my periods all my life, marking them on my calendar – you could set a clock by them. But guess what? I’ve been bleeding black blood since December 27, 2007 and am still bleeding and it’s January 14, 2008. I am in my 40’s and know with what I’ve studied thus far, it’s because I have too much Estrogen in my body. Got to balance it all out.
Will give you an update in near future on research and results.

I’ve been bleeding black blood since December 27, 2007 and am still bleeding and it’s January 14, 2008. I am in my 40’s and know with what I’ve studied thus far, it’s because I have too much Estrogen in my body. Got to balance it all out.

Do you think 'black blood' could be related to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? I have many of the symptoms you describe, and i know POS creates or is a symptom of a hormone imbalance. However, i am in my 20's - I'm worried about being menopausal....

So I'm scared bn havin pains when I pee think its a UTI but now m discharging black blood, its like I'm on my period again n its not even time. M freakin out. I'm on medication for d UTI but I wanna know if d black blood is normal.
I have this problem also, I am spotting black thick gross blood. This is around the time I was supposed to get my period. So I am guessing I am having a strange period of just old blood or something. About a month ago I started have left abdominal pain, like right near my hip. I was worried I had a urinary tract infection or something. I am so annoyed going to the doctor.
Because a couple of years ago... I went back and forth between a serious yeast infection and bacteria vaginosis. They would give me medication for the yeast infection and then the bacteria would come back and then they would give me antibiotics and then I would have to come back for the medication for that. I got so frustrated that I just stopped going to the doctor and I ended up having to shower three times a day, take sugar out of my diet, and ocassionally buy the Miconazole Nitrate 7 day cream.

Oh, and my abdominal cramps before and after I menstruate are the worst! Until I started drinking a tbsp of Molasses everyday. It tastes gross after a while but it works for my abdominal pain. But I still can't figure out why I am bleeding black blood. And the blood flow is really light too. I usually have REALLY heavy flow periods.

This is really gross I've been like bleeding black blood, I mean it started as a normal period then it started changing colors and I'm not really sure what to do. Some people are telling me to go to the doctor but other are telling me that is Just old blood. It been happen now for almost three months is that normal or should i have that checked out?
About this...I've been bleeding this black blood for about several months now. At first, when I first got my period, everything was working periodically (You know...when you exactly when you're Period is going to happen?) But then, it started skipping months (yes, plural) and now I have no idea when it's going to come. I'm not sexually involved with anyone so 'that' idea is out of the picture. And sometimes (if not often) I'll bleed out 'black' or 'dark brown' gunk without me being on my period (or w/o any cramps as well signifying this IS my period/ and this only last about a couple of days) And lastly, when I AM on my period, the blood is black and or very very dark red. =/

Hi, my names suzi and I'm 16. I take the combined oestrogen and progestrone pill. I had really painful cramps before the pill and mild whilst taking it. I've had black, not fully broken down uterus lining blood for years, before and whilst taking the pill (I started getting periods very young). I had a full examination and many tests done at a sexual health hospital and I was completely fine. in my case the strange bleeding according to my gp is because of an iron deficiency I have, and the pains are due to hormone in balances that teenagers often get.
I thank all you ladies for your posts and want to say, I too have the black blood thing going on and it has been a couple of years now (I am 46) I did have cervical cancer when I was in my 20's and am supposed to get checked every 6 months to keep an eye on it, but for the past few years my husband and I have both been either unemployed or under-employed and without insurance because of it. (Thanks to our current economy) So I have not been able to get this checked out. It has had me very concerned. This week is the first week I have ever had pain in my vagina though, not like a yeast infection but just a soreness. I got period on 16 aug 2011 and the fourth day i had a sex with my husband then after little more i bleed. And then i take the tablet of i-pill.. But on 22 aug 2011 my period get complete.. And now on 27 aug when i woke up i saw again i hav starterd bleed.. And the bleeding is in like black in color... Its really dark red... And i dont know why...
I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and have been given a 10% chance to live past 5 years. If you girls (and ladies) are lucky enough to be given this lucky chance to be given a possible hint that you have cancer... PLEASE talk to your doctor so you don't have to leave your loved ones behind. I will be leaving behind my 3 year old baby girl and my elderly parents. Don't sit here reading these articles because they clearly didn't help me because I choose not to go to the doctor after reading these posts. And for all of you that have been through radiation know that radiation is worse than bleeding black tar like blood.

ladies black blood may be due a chocolate cyst. It could be numerous diseases/ conditions related to the reproductive organs. Definitely see your doctor. Symptoms of diseases such as POCS or endometriosis can be managed and the pain may be explained. If you suffer severe cramps, clothing and dark spots you should see a doctor. I did and was diagnosed before the disease did major damage to my intestines and fertility.
I have a different problem. I get a bloody nose about 2 times a week and the blood is black blood. The bloody nose starts in the night usually around 3-4 am, then I feel week the next day. I have also noticed that I have a deep pain in my left arm and the veins and arteries on my left arm look very dark (?black?) they really show up if you compare the left arm to the right arm.
My period is like this sometimes as well. i find that i had pain in my abdominal that was unbearable and caused me to throw up and have diarrhea sometimes on the days i didnt have my period.. i had clots and brownish black blood and i got an ultra sound done and it turns out the pain was from rupturing ovarian cysts and that i had 4 ovarian cysts - 2 ruptured- and i still have 2 cysts left and they have not yet ruptured. the two cysts left are on both ovaries not just one- and are painful when they rupture. there is nothing to do about the pain- for these cysts however so i figured it may be this as well.... maybe get an ultra sound done and good luck!!
